This is amazing. You are extremely talented as a musician. I couldn't imagine such amazing work from the DR-5. It was my first drum machine and will always have a special place in my heart. I hardly use it anymore, but likely won't part with it. I only really scratched the surface of what it could do before upgrading to an E-mu MP-7 (a wondrous drum machine), but I learned the basic on the DR-5. OZ, glad you got your hands on one. BZ.

Oh I didn't do this, I haven't even had a chance to use it yet.

My first was a DR-660, and I still kind of miss it. This thing has some of the DR-550 sounds in it though, and that will do.

I've got an MPC2000xl that was the center of my setup for years but I'm back to doing stuff in the box more these days (still mostly using vaguely unpopular 90s digital hardware for sounds, but I'm just recording them in a track at a time like normal again, instead of mixing everything in one pass on a line mixer and recording the whole thing to one stereo track in one go like I was for a few years) so I don't really sequence on it much anymore, just use it as a sampling drum machine. Sometimes I'd rather just have a small box with sounds in it that I can't really change much so I don't get lost in sampling and tweaking programs for an hour or two, and this will do the job.

Plus it sounds kind of like a Soundblaster 16.

I assume this wasn't sequenced on the DR-5 itself, too, since its sequencer can't store MIDI continuous control, which means all of those itch and mod wheel details in the lead guitar sound had to be controlled externally (also it can only sequence 4 tracks including drums).

Wow, I feel like I'm playing a NeoGeo again.
