Unfortunately, this is what's going through the mind of the average Breitbart fan:

"Ugh, this vaginabeast is making sounds. Why doesn't she shut up, blow me and make me a sandwich? Good God, she's just going on and on. She's just mad 'cause Trump won. All these numbers and shit. Blah, blah, blah. It's a bunch of lies, anyway. Al Gore invented the concept of global warming to get rich selling carbon credits. Enough of this bullshit. I'm going to look for videos of guys getting hit in the nuts."

Old_Zircon - 2016-12-08

Counterpoint: they probably won't see this at all because it's not in their bubble.

Still good to see pushback from the media in the last few weeks before the Trump crackdown begins. Better late than never I guess.

Xenocide - 2016-12-08

Who the fuck cares what the average Breitbart fan thinks? This wasn't for them, this was for the other 98% of the people who saw that story. You can distinguish them from the fact that they breathe through their noses and aren't wearing confederate belt buckles. If this bullshit had only gone up on Brietbart, Weather wouldn't have wasted their time responding. This warranted a response because it got retweeted by a bunch of Republican congressmen.

Old_Zircon - 2016-12-08

Seeing as how they just steamrolled Trump into the whitehouse, maybe we should care what the average Breitbart fan thinks a bit more in the future.

Xenocide - 2016-12-08

Breitbart didn't win this election for Trump. If any media outlets did so, it was the big mainstream ones, which insisted on treating him like a qualified candidate equal to Clinton instead of like the delusional clownfart they all knew he was. Breitbart didn't tell CNN to spend the last week before the election repeating the same Anthony Weiner email probe story over and over again, they did that all on their own.

baleen - 2016-12-08

There's plenty of blame to go around, but the alt-right talking points of islamophobia, anti-gun regulation, male bravado and immigrant-blaming clearly resonated with more voters than expected. A lot of people who voted for Trump clearly believed he has their best interests at heart, they are scared and they feel ignored.

The media exists to shock people at this point. The Wa Post and the NY Times are now in full competition with the shock shlock fest on the internet. So you're right there, but I also see Trump's victory as clearly engineered by the anti-counterculture right. They've even co-opted the language of revolution and dissent and are in the process of convincing normal, ignorant people that Nazis, like the Confederate South, were victims of elite aggression and manipulation on an international level.

Donald Trump MET WITH ALEX JONES after winning the election. Watching it unfold is so weird and surreal. I can kind of see how all the Jews ended up in denial all the way up to the point of having their property confiscated and being put in trains to Dachau.

kingarthur - 2016-12-08

Baleen's on it except for the Nazi bit. I don't think *all* of the alt right believes in Nazism so much as fascism. Not all of them want an ethnostate, just enshrined privilege. I realize that's kind of splitting hairs and giving them a lot of benefit of the doubt, but I agree with the rest of your assessment.

Old_Zircon - 2016-12-09

"Xenocide
Breitbart didn't win this election for Trump. "

Apart from the part where Steve Bannon went from being chair of Breitbart, steering them in a more overtly alt-right direction than they had been before to the point where they are basically the New York Times of the alt-right("the platform for the alt-right" in his own words), then went on leave (but didn't actually step down) to become CEO of the trump campaign, and is now the chief adviser to a president-elect who by most accounts has basically no idea what his duties are, which means that the current chair of Breitbart is in a position where he quite likely wields more power than the president, since he's the one who will be telling Trump how to do the stuff he doesn't know how to do.

So I guess in a sense it's true, Breitbart didn't win the election for Trump, Trump won the election for Breitbart.

Old_Zircon - 2016-12-09

"baleen

The media exists to shock people at this point. The Wa Post and the NY Times are now in full competition with the shock shlock fest on the internet."

Post maybe, but the Times? Liz Spayd has been going out of her way to keep reporters from saying anything that might be considered controversial or provocative, because the NYT's main concern is holding back the tide of new-media that will inevitably (for better or worse) put them out of business over the next two or three decades, and she has decided that the best way to do that is to avoid anything challenging. to the current status quo.

Bort - 2016-12-08

I don't like her lecturing tone.

Also, she's smiling too much. Not the good kind of smile, this is the smug know-it-all kind of smile.

simon666 - 2016-12-08

Well, maybe you should be listening to the content of what is said.

Bort - 2016-12-08

no that's not the problem

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-12-08

No, Bort's right. The content is completely irrelevant. As the lady said, the actual facts are indisputable. So what? It's a bit like telling people smoking will give them lung cancer, or they will lose money at a casino.

Bort - 2016-12-08

She's off-putting.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-12-08

If you're explaining yourself, you are losing.

simon666 - 2016-12-08

I just wonder why someone would criticize this woman's presentation of content, as if the presentation were at issue, and not the content itself. It's like a tacit ad hominem, making it about the messenger rather than the message.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-12-08

She thinks she is helping, but all she is doing is contributing to their narrative.

"Smug, know-it-all woman who won't fuck you, wants to take your truck away. Fucking bitch! She even _looks_ like your ex-wife! are you really gonna let her get away with taking even _more_ from you, as if the alimony isn't killing you already! FUCK HER!"

15th - 2016-12-08

I think Bort is making a joke about people not liking Hillary because she was off-putting, even though her message spoke truth 2 power.

Because that's honestly what he thinks.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-12-08

Also: what really enrages them is that she is factually correct. You know, like the ex-wife....

simon666 - 2016-12-08

If Bort was making a joke or if s/he was making a point about efficacy of her rhetorical style, I stand corrected. But as I read Bort's comment, it seemed to be a non-sequitur about person.

Bort - 2016-12-08

I was indeed doing a thing, about the sort of pervasive misogyny that can be used to shut down anything a woman says. I am pretty sure that most people who follow Breitbart, or any of those right wing sites, will dismiss this woman along the lines I laid out.

I wasn't making a point directly about Hillary, but since 15th went there, a YUGE amount of the pushback against Hillary was exactly this. I realize that the Future Teabaggers Of America -- excuse me, Bernie support base -- can't possibly imagine there is anything less than pure and noble about their motivations, but I call 'em as I see 'em.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-12-08

Elections are like erections, Bort. They're fueled by the heart and extinguished by the mind. But for those faint of heart, there is always viagra.

baleen - 2016-12-08

If a single smug woman is enough to ward you away from scientific inquiry then there's no point in even trying.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-12-08

Yes, that is so. Many of them graduate high school and become rollermen, driving around in circles on various forms of motor vehicle, rather than face college and the dreaded aforementioned female. You might say, they are Roads scholars. But this dead end demolishes the dream of their open highway.

Hazelnut - 2016-12-10

"I was just PRETENDING to be an idiot on the Internet, to raise awareness about how there are idiots on the Internet."
- Bort

Bort - 2016-12-10

Right, because I have a history of denying climate science and demanding women remain submissive. That's some clever sleuthing, Detective Hazelnut!

Hazelnut - 2016-12-10

Um... not even sure what you're trying to say, I think you've passed from sputtering to incomprehensible.

Xenocide - 2016-12-08

"Science doesn't care about your opinion." I want that on a tshirt.

This is the best example I've seen of how to deal with garbage news providers like Breitbart: don't try to convince them or their idiot fans of anything. Instead, talk over them and address the larger, and much more relevant, general population. Ignore the equal time fallacy and simply state what's true and what isn't, and why. It's sad that the only major media outlet willing to do this right now is the one that only reports on the fucking weather.

kingarthur - 2016-12-08

A conservative friend of mine's reaction to this was something along the lines of "15,000 years means there is climate change but not man made climate change."

I'm trying to unpack the statement because he's really fairly smart, he's just a conservative and is deep inside the conservative media bubble.

simon666 - 2016-12-08

I've run across similar responses from people I know. I tend to respond like this:

simon: how do we know about climate or change 15000 years ago?

them: climate science

simon: yeah, that's why i listen to them about climate change.

kingarthur - 2016-12-08

Good point.

magnesium - 2016-12-08

Breitbart's response to this was basically "Yeah, well, you're a hot girl so what do you know?"

That... is not an exaggeration.

Bort - 2016-12-08

Called it, more or less. You can't imagine how delighted I am.

That guy - 2016-12-08

This is definitely my kind of smug vaginabeast, and the world needs more of them.

also, dibs

SolRo - 2016-12-09

I wonder if Xiphias has at all noticed that he and his herd of Bernie bros over at BoNews sound almost exactly like brietbart trolls except for 1 out of every 10 stories were they really hate a republican...the rest being them hating white feminist women, democratic women, hating anyone that points out how Bernie bros hate women, etc, etc.

Pillager - 2016-12-09

Ladies & Gentlemen, the Death of the Democratic party!

If women must “vote with our vaginas” then, it would seem that the choice between two candidates where one grabs pussies while the other leaves them exposed to poverty, death, and rape, resulted in what would appear to be the least overtly violent figure. That is if you are not a white woman living outside the neoliberal dream of 401k or hedge fund accounts. To think that Trump could possibly have been the more class-conscious and feminist choice of the two might seem surreal to many, but the Realpolitik of this election demonstrates that Hillary Clinton was unable to mobilise support from the working class or women. As Lorna Garano notes: “One problem with the Bernie Bro myth: He had massive support from women. That’s because things like healthcare, education, and a liveable wage are women’s issues. You can’t eat symbolism.”

http://www.counterpunch.org/2016/11/18/hillary-clinton-the-vot e-and-contemporary-feminisms-class-blindness/

Bort - 2016-12-09

Pillager, you take the dumbest people seriously.

Pillager - 2016-12-09

Bort, that's pretty ironic coming from someone who thought Hillary was presidential timber.

Bort - 2016-12-09

I looked at your idiot article, and basically what they're doing is blaming Hillary for the no-win situations in Libya, Honduras, and elsewhere. Do the idiot authors know that Hillary didn't call for the no-fly zone in Libya, but rather the request came from the Arab League? Of course they don't, and I would bet anything that you didn't either. The general idiots' opinion on Libya is that Libya was a peaceful and prosperous land until mean ol' Hillary came along, but the facts aren't interested in opinions:

www.aljazeera.com/news/africa/2011/03/201131218852687848.html< br />
As for Honduras, there was a coup but it was not a military coup (it was instigated by the Honduran Supreme Court in response to a president who wasn't obeying their injunctions), and Hillary's solution was to push for new elections ... probably the only clean way out of the mess.

The fact that your idiot authors are so quick to paint Hillary as a grasping monster, and you are so ready to believe them, makes me wonder if there isn't some misogyny at work -- you idiots are envisioning Cruella Deville or some other cartoon villain when you think of Hillary, and that's on you.

Hazelnut - 2016-12-09

For SolRo and Bort reminding us why the path to a redeemed Democratic Party and America is going to be a lot more Bernie's than Hillary's.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-12-09

In a world where political power not only seeks to undermine reality itself, but, for the moment, seems to be winning, I'm going to do everything I can to judge every message by its factual accuracy, as I am given the light to see it. The alt-right doesn't seem to care about being smug, or strident, or off-putting when it's pushing its alt-reality, yet they've been pretty successful. If you care about the facts, that's what matters.

>>>She thinks she is helping, but all she is doing is contributing to their narrative.

Of course. EVERYTHING contributes to their narrative. That's how their narrative works.

>>>The fact that your idiot authors are so quick to paint Hillary as a grasping monster, and you are so ready to believe them, makes me wonder if there isn't some misogyny at work.

The weird thing is that the grasping monster that liberals paint her as and the grasping monster conservatives have painted her as for 20 years seem like two different people. The only thing in common is the unrelenting hate.

I hear that Hillary was pro-fracking. I'll bet she was for regulated fracking. What we're going to get now is UNREGULATED fracking.

Bort - 2016-12-09

Hillary's pro-fracking stance is that she supports fracking provided there is oversight (such as knowing exactly what is being pumped into the ground) and the local community has the right to reject fracking. OMG WHAT A FUCKING MONSTER.

The Left has truly earned Trump; hope they enjoy it.

Hazelnut - 2016-12-10

In which Bort fails to hear the irony of his own words.

Spaceman Africa - 2016-12-10

If you're still using the word "Berniebros" unironically you're probably a dumbass.

Pillager - 2016-12-10

@ Bort, we've been over this. Obama said his biggest mistake was letting Hillary turn Libya into a raging toxic dumpster fire that let ISIS take over & then spread.

@ JHM, What can I say? Her personal ambition & greed exceeded her limited charisma & poor leadership skills.

Bort - 2016-12-10

Pillager thinks civilian massacres in Libya are AWESOME, just so long as the US stays completely out of it. It was a no-win situation, and if you believe your idiot authors that it means Hillary loves rape and murder, you're an even bigger idiot.

And ain't it funny how Hillary is the only career politicians whose presidential aspirations are dismissed as "ambition". Bitch should have stuck to baking cookies, amirite?

Spaceman Africa - if you don't like the term "BernieBro", perhaps you would prefer "one income bracket away from going full Teabagger".

Hazelnut - 2016-12-10

Bort would rather see Trump as President than Bernie.

SolRo - 2016-12-11

Hazelnut prefers trump as president over Hillary

Pillager - 2016-12-11

Bort, we told you that worthless corrupt cunt was going to lose to Trump. You didn't listen. Her tenure as Sec of State was a fiasco. She was paid exorbitant amounts of money for Wall Street speeches that she tried to hide. Need I go on?

She didn't have what it took to persuade the country to accept her as a leader.

Lay off the sexist accusations. I voted for a female this election. It's a shame Shrillary set woman back for years to come...

Hazelnut - 2016-12-12

Hazelnut voted for Hillary twice this year, with pride. Still aware enough to see she's not the future.

SolRo supports Trump over their shared erection for Putin.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-12-12

Lay off the sexist accusations. I voted for a female this election. It's a shame Shrillary set woman back for years to come...

Everytime one of these wordsmiths uses one of these clever variations on "Hillary" (eg Killary, Godzillary) a light goes on in my brain that says WHAT AN IDIOT! and everything after that sounds is a saxophone noise, like when Charlie Brown's teacher talks.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-12-12

>>> Obama said his biggest mistake was letting Hillary turn Libya into a raging toxic dumpster fire that let ISIS take over & then spread.

I'm guessing that this may not be a direct quote.

Pillager - 2016-12-13

President Barack Obama said the worst mistake of his presidency was a lack of planning for the aftermath of the 2011 toppling of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.Apr 11, 2016 (CNN)

Shame Killary didn't learn from the sad lessons of Iraq & Afghanistan....

&

The Idiot is the one who didn't foresee that the narcissistic woman who dedicated to speech to railing against a goddamned Cartoon Frog would lose to a narcissistic buffoon. We told you so.

SolRo - 2016-12-11

"we told you that worthless corrupt cunt was going to lose"

"Lay off the sexist accusations"

Pillager = name = irony

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-12-11

>>>@ JHM, What can I say? Her personal ambition & greed exceeded her limited charisma & poor leadership skills.

Well then, I guess we all dodged a bullet. Crisis narrowly averted. Now we can all breathe a sigh of relief, and get down to the business of MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
