BR is basically my all-time favorite movie. So, from that biased standpoint, I was pretty critical of any attempt to make a sequel, even if it did have involvement of original crew/cast and such. That said, I have a lot more confidence in this film now than I did before now that the people involved seem to actually be pretty well picked and Ridley Scott supposedly was very hands on with this production. They ditched the embryonic idea of trying to adapt the terrible KW Jeter "Sequel" novels pretty early on, and that was a positive step, and when I read about the efforts they were making at writing a good enough script to attract the right people, I figured maybe it was in earnest. I think it's a mistake to put Ford in the marketing right up front because it's pretty obvious he's not really going to be in the movie much. (production reports say his entire time on-set was something like 3 or 4 days to film only a few minor scenes) But, I'm fairly optimistic it will be pretty cool.

May you be right. If I could boil down my concerns into one, it would be that Villeneuve will not notice the multiple weaknesses in the writers' script, because he'll have a visual idea about those unrecognized weaknesses that excites him.
BUT
it has a higher chance of succeeding than the showrunner of Mr. Robot remaking Metropolis...

I understood that the only reason the first one wasn't a cool looking piece of shit ( like most scifi movies ) is because Phil was brought in at the last minute to doctor the screenplay. I don't doubt it.

Well, the best part is that even if it's terrible, it takes nothing away from the original at least it seems like an honest try rather than some boardroom/Hollywood driven thing of putting it in the hands of Zach Snyder or some shit and turning into a Transformers movie with replicants or something.

My optimism is set pretty high, but I'm just going with the fact that Sicario was one of the best films I've seen in a long time, and I've seen a lot of movies. So.. mr. director, just do what you did there and you'll be fine.

The director...haven't seen Sicario yet, but I wanted to like Arrival more than I actually liked it. Good to see a sci-fi movie that didn't cram in pointless action sequences or over the top sentimental shit like Interstellar but...the premise was silly and in the end it was little more than a less disappointing version of Contact.

The producer...last time Ridley Scott was hands on with a revival of his old franchise, we got Prometheus.

The writers...this is what matters. We have Fancher, who hasn't done a single thing before or since the original Bladerunner, and how much of that movie's greatness can be credited to the writing? Didn't someone else come in and polish the script?

Then there's Michael Green. Holy fucking shit. Everwood, Heroes, Smallville, Green Lantern, and SEX IN THE CITY??? They're putting Bladerunner into the hands of the Green Lantern and WB showrunner guy? Dear god.
