Gee SolRo your tags really demonize the PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ACT.

Xenocide - 2016-12-25

Pssst: A lot of people are assholes. It's easier to regulate guns than it is to regulate human douchebaggery out of existence. Merry Christmas.

What rational utopia do you live in Sorrow? Russia?

15th - 2016-12-25

But, yeah, gun laws in the U.S. leave a lot to be desired.

Gmork - 2016-12-25

OBJECTS ARE SO EVIL RARRRGH

A person capable of shooting someone could NEVER find another way to be dangerous!

bawbag - 2016-12-25

Counterpoint: I've never even heard of a 3 year old being shot in the UK where guns are hyper-regulated.

Hope you're having a good christmas gmork!

freedoom - 2016-12-25

which is why the UK still tries to regulate knives. whatever someone has access to they will use. If guns are illegal, people will use home made explosives, a can of gasoline, knives, hammers, tire irons. banning a tool has no effect on the destructive capabilities of one motivated person.

bawbag - 2016-12-25

"banning a tool has no effect on the destructive capabilities of one motivated person."

It does reduce the ease with which murder/suicide can be effected and raises the 'bar for entry' high enough to make raining death on people a little more involved than pulling a trigger. A significant disincentive as evidenced by our respective per capita murder/crime rates IMHO.

Lest you think I'm coming at this from an anti-gun-nut perspective: I enjoy hunting personally, it's common in my family and I think responsible, regulated gun ownership is a wonderful thing. I do not on the other hand think that every schmoe should have access to weaponry without incredibly stringent background checks/regular psych eval/training in their operation and maintenance.

SolRo - 2016-12-25

This wasn't a motivated person, just a crazy guy with access to a gun and he shot at a car he thought was following him too closely

In the 2009 Binghamton shootings, which took place a couple of blocks from me, Jiverly Wong walked into the American Civic Center, and killed 13 people. Four others were wounded. Finally, Wong commited suicide.

Some people suggested that he could have used a knife. Or a baseball bat.

Get real. Yoiu can kill a person with a baseball bat, but you can't kill thirteen people, not without their cooperation, anyway. You can't kill that many people inside an office building with a car. Even with a knife, killing thirteen people is labor-intensive.

I'm actually pro-second amendment. Benjamin Franklin, chosing
safety over freedom, and all that. But you ARE choosing freedom over safety. Let's not sugar coat that. A gun isn't the only way to kill someone. It's the easist, most efficient, most versitile way to kill someone. Or someones. The ease of killing a person with a gun is why people get killed for stupid reasons.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2016-12-27

I'm going to take the liberty or rewriting that last paragraph.

I'm generally pro-second amendment. Benjamin Franklin said those who choose safety over freedom deserve neither, or something like that. However, you ARE choosing freedom over safety. Let's not sugar coat that. A gun isn't the only way to kill someone. It's the easist, most efficient, most versitile way to kill the most people.

The ease of killing with a gun is why people get killed for stupid reasons.
