i been playing this game and have been havin a real confusing time with it

like the game is pure cheesecake for the 16-19 year old girl demographic which i cant imagine comprises a reasonably large slice of the vg market pie

so maybe you end up thinking 'this has gotta be a layer deep lets give it a chance' but it plays the boyfruendo shtick straight up the whole way through. you got a main coverboy right out of moody anorexics monthly and three beige dudes whose personalities range from "displays abs" to "ambisexual den mother"

the game opens with a japanese acoustic version of 'stand by me'

combat consists of just pushing the thumbstick in A Direction

the car drives itself and you cant even intentionally run into things

The "TEN YEARS IN DEVELOPMENT" meme is a falsehood that needs to die. Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy XV are not the same game. The first was cancelled, and the second was only in development from 2011 onward.

That being said, yes, FFXV was a massive disappointment. Even after all the development, active time reports, and constant hype, the game feels largely unfinished and like it doesn't know what the hell it wants to be. It doesn't want to be a Final Fantasy game and doesn't really feel at all like one. It feels like a group of Japanese execs watched a Lets Play video of The Witcher 3 and said "Ah yes, that's what the kids want".

The worst part is that it isn't even a terrible game, I'd go as far as saying it's a very good game. So I can't just out and out hate it but good god is it a hard pill to swallow that it's a mainline FF game. Even XIII had a more cogent story and character development. Yes, that's right, I'm saying something nice about FFXIII.
