What a hair-raising scam.

Something about this clip coupled with the fact I spent 4 hours today reading about tube stereo amplifiers makes me fearful of my future.

Scott 299c has my vote

Old_Zircon - 2016-12-28

It's only fair to tell you that a Scott 299c is the only tube stereo amp I've ever actually owned, though, so I may be biased.

Also I don't know if it's really a good deal (as those things go) if you don't luck in to one as a set with the matching tuner for $100 and then sell the tuner on Craigslist for $100 and end up with a free amp like I did. But I'd say as long as it's in good shape and under $1000 it's worth it, it's a very nice sounding, well made, easy to service amp.

Figures that I finally have the money to get it serviced and brought back into working order I don't have any space to set it up (it started blowing fuses after spending 6 months in storage and then getting turned on with a single strand of one speaker wire bridging two of the terminals, and I don't have the skill to diagnose it myself although I suspect it just needs new power tubes - I don't think there was any damage to an output transformer or anything, and any other problems are fairly routine).

^that is your future

I accept my fate.

Old_Zircon - 2016-12-29

Better get yourself an oscilloscope, because you're looking at a couple hundred dollars every time you retube as it is, so it's worth learning to set the bias yourself so you can at least save the cost and hassle of having a technician do it.

(that's why mine is collecting dust on a shelf in the other room).

The worst part is I'm not even looking to actually buy one. Hypothetical stereo. My holiday has been wall to wall excitement.

Oscar Wildcat - 2016-12-29

Better to just buy the scope: how people get by without these is an abiding mystery to me. That said, you can do an awful lot with a sensitive diode, a cap and a pair of deck talkers or some other big cans for your earballs. You feel me?

They come'a runnin' just as fast they can!

I tried growing my hair out once, kept it up till it got down to my neck, gained a new respect for women that have thin hair like mine but maintain a long hairstyle. then got a haircut.

It's such a pain in the ass.

Also my hair started thinning (not going bald, just shed a lot of hair and regrow most of it) and I got tired of unclogging the sink.
