Ah yes, from the director's cut.

If you beat them mercilessly with a wrench they will start working again.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-01-24

See, this is all due to the Liberal's stupid regulations about clip size. THANKS, OBAMA!

Two Jar Slave - 2017-01-24

Watched this movie for the first time a couple years ago and was pretty bored. It's all hardware. Ships, guns, cars, turrets, exo suits, just gearhead fantasy toys forever and ever. Even for James Cameron, it's too lacking in the story department. If people can criticize modern blockbusters for their faceless hordes of easily despatched enemies, I don't think Aliens can get a pass. First Alien movie was great, though.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2017-01-24

This is the first time I've heard someone describe Aliens as boring. Aliens is Cameron's best film and it stands as one of the best action flicks of all time.

I'm sorry but you're fucked in the head and you should go back to Buzzfeed.

Ten Reasons Why Alien Resurrection is the Best Film in the Series

Maggot Brain - 2017-01-24

Aliens was a fun movie when I was a kid. The whole movie plays out like a dark Ride at Disneyland.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2017-01-24

Ha, I guess your totally right there. Though I love this film and really dig all that silly gearhead stuff (In addition to my love of rigorous sci-fi, this is obvs super un-rigorous)

I'm curious, as somebody who is immune to that all gearhead weapons porn stuff* ,did u not find aliens to be a tense well made 80's action film at all?
Trying to look thru the gun porn myself I reckon there is a solid action movie screenplay and some good tense moments. Eg they build up newt as a character u invest in then threaten her and Ripley has to rescue her.

Did u not play with guns/army toys as a child? All the boys toys were like that when I was a kid for some reason, so probably its conditioned me..

I can see the argument that for a Cameron movie, Aliens is light on personality, except for Bishop. T2 is probably a better balanced movie for action and characterization, since the technology in that are the characters.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-01-24

Let's see what I can remember...

Newt, Bill Paxton, and Paul Riser all added some cartoonish colour to the otherwise stony movie. They were welcome.

I did not find it very tense or exciting, probably because unlike the first movie the tension wasn't allowed to build long enough before a really long shootout (this is my comparison to modern blockbusters, which generally are heavy on blitz but light on suspense and build-up). Pretty sure I was watching a director's cut, so maybe the pacing is tighter in the one you guys remember?

I did play with guns and stuff as a kid, and some of the macho tech in Aliens was pretty cool, but unless there's someone I care about driving it I'm gonna glaze over pretty quick. Had a similar problem with the new Mad Max movie, which I know is another sacred text online. Not trying to be stuffy, here. I like James Cameron's Terminator movies a lot, because the heroes are relatable and they're so outmatched by the villain that every scene has a lot of dread and suspense.

I'm sure Aliens was Super Awesome when it was made, but it's also one of those "classics" that got oversold to me. People said it was better than the first one, and it just isn't. Cartoonish, macho, techie, yes. But I missed all the blue collar chatter about shares.

As for Buzzfeed, I don't the get it. Usually that's slang for being dumb or trivial, but does liking Aliens really make you an intellectual giant? You should have called me a hipster or something, right?

Old_Zircon - 2017-01-24

Two jar, if you saw the blu-ray give it another chance, they really, REALLY fucked up the blu-ray.

memedumpster - 2017-01-24

This scene needed the display to show cheap pixelated aliens being gunned down, like that Superman movie did, or House of the Dead.

Kid Fenris - 2017-01-24

I can see why they cut this. It adds little, and there aren't enough shots of the actual creatures getting blown away.

At least it doesn't wreck the whole mood of the film, like that deleted scene of Newt's family finding the derelict ship.

reifiedandrefined - 2017-02-24

my uncle was one of the 30 people in the world who bought a laserdisc of this - uncut and with surround sound. i always assumed the sentry gun part was in the actual film...while it can feel a bit lame on a YT screen, hearing the screams of the aliens and the guns across 5.1 before i understood what that was was pretty impressive.

it's that matrix or simpsons conundrum where you have to explain to people that this stuff was NEW once and very cool, but within a year or two it's been copied to death and nobody's wowed. now i understand why my dad tried to explain every scene of dr strangelove to me as zeitgeist.
