Years ago, Fox News used to get on the case of Mr. Rogers of all people, for saying that everyone is special, and that makes everyone think they're worthwhile people.
And you know what? I think Fox News is right after all. Only, the people who learned the wrong lessons about self-esteem weren't the liberal parents who encourage little Cody and Skyler. No, the problem are the garbage people who, despite being objectively terrible, cannot see themselves as anything but heroes and champions.
A little self-loathing is good once in a while, if it comes from candid self-appraisal and the realization that one needs work.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-02-28 Literally everything conservatives complain about is something they actually would do if they can get away with it. All of Trump's presidency is about doing literally everything he bitched about Obama doing. The thing is, a conservative only has to be morally correct once and they'll use it to define their continued existence, whereas a progressive must be right 100% of the time or be damned.
It's easy to complain about the moral failings of your leadership when you yourself feel that you should personally be an exception to the expectations of moral behavior.
