haha wow what the fuck?

BiggerJ - 2017-03-02

Just so you know, the gameplay is cut out, showing only cutscenes and images.

Story ending, including the bizarre practice of 'yogic flying': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brEEbJ-uG0k

When you say "cult made", do you mean the game was actually made by Aum Shinri Kyo?

Scrimmjob - 2017-03-02

Also, if you tag "aum shinrikyo" it will link to other related videos.

BiggerJ - 2017-03-02

He'll need to replace the 'aum shinri kyo' tag - although tags beyond the displayed five still factor into tag video lists, or so I've heard.

teethsalad - 2017-03-02

they theorize it was either made as an aum project or by a sympathizer/member - a large portion of aum's membership was surprisingly technically sophisticated, w/ a siezable contingent holding advanced degrees

A friend of mine married an Aum survivor. They had a baby about 1999. 9/11 happened, and suddenly she was put on the terrorist watchlist. They couldn't return to the states. This led to a stress on their marriage, and he divorced her. Due to weird aspects of Japanese divorce law, the kid can't return with him unless she says so. So, he'll never see his daughter again and fully expects to go to his grave without her. He has no idea what they're doing or where they are. He's hoping when the daughter hits legal age he can reconnect but the likelihood that she's been integrated into the cult is high.

This guy is the same age as me, drinks a fifth of gin a day, looks like he's in his early 60s. He'll just spontaneously erupt in tears. He lives in a single room flop. He eats nothing. His life is nightmarish.

It's because of posts tlike this that this site needs to exist forever. I've sorely tempted to go to the Wayback Machine and archive every single video page, one by one.

damn. Well, thanks for the gratitude meditation for today.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-03-03

Can I also point out that he's harrassed by Homeland Security on a quarterly basis? They knock on his door and demand to know when he's returning to Japan.

What would you like to do today, teacher?

The Game of Life, except you're a cult leader.

I have to bring this up everytime Aum Shinrikyo comes up...did you know they owned a million-acre property in Western Australia in the 90's?

What is intriguing is that there was a "mysterious seismic disturbance" accompanied by a large fireball witnessed by long-distance truckers on May 28, 1993, emanating from south of the property.
Speculation ranged from an earthquake, old mine explosion, meteor, etc. but no explanation quite fit and it was forgotten.

When you consider that Aum recruited former soviet nuclear engineers, and evidence that they were mining uranium in the desert in Australia, it's seems more likely than not that Aum Shinrikyo tested an estimated 2 kiloton nuclear device on Australian soil in 1993.
The bomb dropped on Hiroshima was apparently 13-18 kilotons.

It shows the remoteness of the outback; that you can set off a nuclear device with shockwaves, mushroom cloud and all, and the only people apart from seismologists that notice are a few truck drivers.

2 years later, after the 1995 Tokyo attack, the Australian feds searched and found traces of sarin but no conclusive evidence of nukes.

This is great!

Also, Last Podcast On The Left did a four parter about Aum Shinrikyo, which is worth a listen.
