"Is it just me or does it look like this guy hasn't gone a day in his life without being bullied?"

Well played, good sir.

infinite zest - 2017-03-01

Jack Herer! There's a really really great strain called Cali Jack or Bubba Jack which is Jack Herer and Bubba Jack.

TheyUsedDarkForces - 2017-03-01

Cali Jack?

Jack Frost is another good one that is currently available in Portland, which is a Jack Herer/White Widow/Northern Lights hybrid.

That said, I like weed as much as the next person, but I can't wait for the hype to die down a little bit around here. It's silly in the same manner as wine snobs or vape bros...

Oh yeah.. at least I've found a store that plays the kind of music I like with friendly staff but I want to hang around there about as much as I wanted to hang out at my dealer's apartment. :/

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-03-01

If you can locate it, a finely cured cut of the varietal Omega is something I'd expect to find being sold at Nat Sherman's in Manhattan.

TheyUsedDarkForces - 2017-03-01

Oscar Wildcat - I've seen that one around, actually. I'll give it a go. I've always appreciated your username, by the way.

infinite zest - You found one that plays tolerable music?! I have two places near me (as in a 5-10 minute stroll), neither of which I'd really recommend. I've probably only been inside 6-8 of them, so my sample size is small, but it's usually mumbly newschool hiphop or something that, to my ears, sounds like an Enya remix album... It's also really amusing to me that so many of them have trouble staying open. The one closest to me will close randomly, with no notice, for a few days at a time. The second closest currently has 3-4 notices from Pacific Power on the door, so it looks like they're done for... Anyways, because of that, I'm always looking for recommendations. Oh and since I'm thinking of it, I recall that you once recommended Santeria for Mexican food. I tried it and it's quite good, but for my money, I prefer La Bonita (On Alberta or Killingsworth, for more high-brow food) or Taqueria Santa Cruz (In St John's, on Lombard, closer in price and quality to the cheap taquerias I liked in California.).

Bootymarch - 2017-03-01

People telling me about strains of pot is the pet peeve of all time. "Yo this is Purple Vader-" and my brain just dies right there. Is it good or is it bad is all you need to know.

It's like the business card scene from American Psycho.

infinite zest - 2017-03-01

Meh.. it's like beer. It's not snobby to like a particular kind of IPA any more than a lager it's not high life, or a particular Thai place.. some things just suck and weed's no exception. That, and everybody smokes for particular reasons. For example my girlfriend uses it for her fibromyalgia, and would actually prefer a CBD strain instead of the more common recreational THC strains, which doesn't get you high, and there's plenty of folks who just want to get fucked up the same way some people just like to get drunk and that's why they drink.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-03-01

I feel your pain, Booty! Largely because a number of factors go into making a good smoking cannabis. It's like wine, really. You can stick a pinot noir cutting into the ground, and get some kind of grape, let it ferment and you've got Pinot Noir? Hardly. Growing conditions, curing, and more subtle factors play as large a part as the varietal in the end flavor and cannabinoid content. What you _can_ say about a varietal is that you can expect a certain flavor and concentration of THC/CBD if best practices are met.

infinite zest - 2017-03-01

@DarkForces I live over in either Montavilla or Woodstock depending so I like Kaleafa on Woodstock or Brothers, but the place right down the street has apparently closed with no notice. Anyway they were playing Ariel Pink and so was I.

infinite zest - 2017-03-01

Oh yeah Mexican food! Did I mention Taquiera Los Gorditos and Lindo Mochatlan (probably spelling that wrong)? Those are two other good ones. I think I was on a Los Gorditos sabbatical since I basically lived behind it for a while, but they have the best free salsas and don't really care if you take a ketchup bottle and fill the whole thing up.

infinite zest - 2017-03-01

I'll write those places down tho! My brother lives in St. Johns so I should go over there more anyway but the last time I was on Alberta I was at The Nest, so it's been a while and a half.

chumbucket - 2017-03-02

Bootymarch said everything I wanted to say about this subject. Stars.

TheyUsedDarkForces - 2017-03-02

Yeah, the strain, the cure, growing practices, when it was harvested, etc. all make a big difference in terms of potency and how good it is. Having had experience with both ends of the spectrum, I don't think that's debatable.

As for the endless pontificating about what a certain strain can do to/for you, that's the part I can't get behind. High is high for me. One strain isn't going to make me more motivated to create something artistic, clean the house, exercise, etc. It's all marketing, I think. All strains ultimately make me want to listen to music, read a book in the sun, watch a movie and/or eat some garbage food.

IZ - Thanks! I'll check all those places (weed and Mexican) out. I haven't heard of any of those, so that's cool. Taqueria Santa Cruz has tasty tacos for $1.25/per, like God intended, and if you hit La Bonita, get the spicy green sauce on your burrito, even though it's more expensive than I'd normally accept. $2.50 for sauce is pretty brutal, but it's good stuff.

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-03-02

Broadly speaking, there are three basic varietals of the genus Cannabis; sativa, indica, and ruderalis. The first two are the kind people like to smoke, the third one is important to breeders but not of much interest by itself. Sativa and sativa dominant hybrids are generally stimulating in effect. Indicas are sedating. This is due to a synergistic effect between THC and CBD, the later being abundant in indicas and generally not present in sativas. In hybrids the ratio of these two chemicals varies and the resulting psychic effects are more complex.

That's about all you really need to know about "strains". As Booty suggests, this business about Purple Vader being the ultimate bomb is just nonsense. But consider who's selling this stuff, and what kinds of signals people use to buy things. It's not all that gobdlegook I wrote above.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-02

Just make some alcohol tincture ya dorks.

TheyUsedDarkForces - 2017-03-03

Oscar - All I'm saying is that in my many years of smoking, I've never experienced a significant difference between a pure Indica with high CBD and a pure Sativa with high THC. I know it's not the same for many folks, though. Having grown up in an area known for it's weed production (and little else), getting to see the way they market the stuff is pretty entertaining.

OZ - You know, though I've had it a few times, I've never made my own tincture. If I were to again find myself in possession of large enough quantities to justify any kind of processing procedure, I'd elect to make BHO and/or a batch of butter to keep in the freezer for special occasions.

Gmork - 2017-03-01

The comment at 3:21.

The Mothership - 2017-03-01

This was a funny one.

15th - 2017-03-01

I don't know if OZ is doing a good job curating these, or Erik is just consistently rad. Either way, the list of "vloggers" I like is short, but Big Money Salivia is up there.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-02

They're all this good lately.

15th - 2017-03-02

Fucking a, I went to his channel, looks like he's really hit his stride.

Old_Zircon - 2017-03-02

Yeah, the 2016 stuff was already great but since the elections he's been AMAZING.

TheyUsedDarkForces - 2017-03-03

I generally like his videos, he's got good comedic timing. I didn't make the connection until fairly recently that he was the same guy behind the "Gardening on Salvia" type videos that were going around a couple years ago.

Smoke that purp, stay lit 4 ever.
