https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrigan_(TV_series)

Here's the Wikipedia article that reads like something Barry Dale (Harrigan) might have written himself although checking "History", it would seem that it was written by a prolific Wikipedia editor in Saskatchewan so it's not autobiographical, although I think "Bearcat" probably talked to Dale before writing the article.

Minor correction to the description: in syndicated form, as seen on YTV, HARRIGAN was made at CKWS in Kingston, which was a CBC affiliate at the time, but HARRIGAN actually started on CJOH, Ottawa's CTV affiliate possibly best known for producing YOU CAN'T DO THAT ON TELEVISION. But I can't fit that bit into the description so I'll leave it as is.

I really only remembered the theme song, to be honest.

All I remembered of this show is the chroma-key Harrigan dancing on the Blarney Stone. That's still more than I can remember of most CKWS local programming.

It doesn't take much to become an actor in Canada, does it?

CrimsonHyperSloth - 2017-03-13

Correct. The government guarantees that we all get one acting gig in our lifetime. Socialism!

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2017-03-13

At least he looks like an alcoholic so at least they got that part correct.

This is from the latter part of the era when local TV stations on both sides of the long, long border did their own hokey ultra-low-budget kids' shows hosted by people who usually also had other jobs at the station.

Serious acting chops were always welcome but were not, strictly speaking, necessary to get a lead role.

Wow, that explains so much about Trailer Park Boys

This was always part of the best CanCon.

Harrigan.

Uncle Bobby.

Professor Kitzel.

Captain Nemo.

Pinocchio / Wizard of Oz.

Hercules.

Spider-Man (naturally).

Circle Square Ranch. My brother always said that one of the puppets had a hairlip, and I didn't know what that meant but later clued in that it was an insult.

And, when the wind was just right and the antenna flew high, Commander Tom from WKBW in Buffalo. Quick question: What was the name of the dog puppet? (I know, but it's great watching everyone else strain their brains.)
