classic

while it's not the best theme song, Moonraker has the best score

I can't really separate the songs from the visuals with the Bond themes, so my favorite is actually a combination of the graphics from the '67 Casino Royale with Chris Cornell's 2006 theme. I dunno, Soundgarden > Wings.

70s Bond is Bond-kers.

garcet71283 - 2017-05-24

We need another moonraker to wash the bad taste of the last 4 movies out of our mouths.

Bond used to be fun, why can't it be again?

infinite zest - 2017-05-24

I was excited for Daniel Craig playing Bond because I loved his performance in Munich, which was naturally very 70s. I've defended Goldeneye and even Tomorrow Never Dies but franchise was in danger just like Batman and the gritty reboot at least helped make Bond bond with the kids again. I was watching The Tonight Show randomly last night and it was all about Wonder Woman, ending with an interpretation of the classic series' credits song and dance, and even though it didn't work with Batman and Robin or even "Forever" to an extent, I'd at least appreciate a campy (or at least fun) attempt in either case, now that cheesy over-the-top technology can be made to look realistic just like their more brooding kin.

Casino Royale was good fun, and a much better movie than its sequels would have you believe.

infinite zest - 2017-05-24

Yeah that movie was a perfect place to start: I like David Niven and Peter Sellers as much as the next person but the original Casino Royale is not only considered a weird comedic test run for the Bond character, but legally it's not even part of the MGM series, so its revival felt like an everybody wins kinda situation at first :(

Lurchi - 2017-05-24

they're stuck between sad "realistic" Daniel Craig Bond as an actual person and Austin Powers, and don't know how to do anything but shit out corporate product (I liked Skyfall but Quantum of Solace and Spectre...forget it)

garcet71283 - 2017-05-24

I liked Casino Royale and Skyfall when they came out, but the older they get and upon rewatching they both leave a bad taste.

I think Casino Royale, for all its faults, was a promising start. Quantum of Solace was just plain bad. Skyfall was a good movie, but after seeing it a few times, I question if it was a good "Bond" movie. I have gotten so apathetic to the current run that Spectre has been on my Hulu watch list for about 6 months and I still don't have it in me to watch it.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-05-24

Same reason Batman is so dull. The investment required to fund a tentpole spectacle doesn't allow for risks. It passes through a committee of fifty executives before the first draft of the script is done, and then they rewrite it five times, and then they reshoot it three times based on feedback from focus groups. There is no chance of fun escaping the risk mitigation process.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-05-24

Skyfall was a movie designed for boomer grandpas to assuage their (correct) fears that the world doesn't give a shit about them any more. It was the Donald Trump's Presidency of Bond movies. That it had any appeal to non-grandpas is a mystery I will never solve.

garcet, you're right to not watch Spectre. I saw both of them in theatres, and at least I remember watching Skyfall.

For me it was the realization that I could go out and basically purchase every gadget and weapon in Casino Royale, and most of them through very legal means, provided I had the money. All of a sudden Bond was less cool because any old Google CEO could be driving around in the exact same Bondmobile, probably before the fuckin' thing was even in theatres. With gritty Bondsporter the only way to still have really cool barely-seen technology is to set the fucker in outer space again.

Maggot Brain - 2017-05-25

I think the world is ready for another fun Bond. The best thing to come from the last round of bond movies was the song "skyfall."

Maggot Brain - 2017-05-25

Moooon raker! he's the man, the man who can raaaaake the moon, but don't you swoon!
