This might be a good film but holy shit, those Youtube comments are full of Pizza gaters and Trump people yelling about mass executions and dismantling the entire US government.

Also it is on a Pizzagate channel.

Also it's worth noting that the credibility of the source of many of the more outrageous, conspiratorial claims is weak to say the least:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jonathan-handel/hollywood-sex-ab use-doc-d_b_6259932.html

Not that that article is exactly a paragon of journalistic transparency itself, with multiple references to "evidence I have received" by the author and every citation pointing to a handful of Hollywood Reporter articles so on. It's just worth noting that Egan has had previous lawsuits about similar claims thrown out of court and other claimants in the suits have publicly said that he fabricated the claims out of whole cloth and the director of this documentary refused to do interviews about it to promote it even as she was working to promote earlier films she had done.

It's quite possible that this is just another layer of exploitation thrown onto the actual abuse victims interviewed in the film to further a spurious conspiracy narrative. Or not, child sex rings aren't exactly an unprecedented thing, although like most "conspiracies" the ones that have been revealed and prosecuted seem to be less organized "rings" than simply a handful of mentally ill people in positions of social power serving their own interests and parents who through neglect, naivety, hope of personal gain or whatever are unaware or look the other way.

Just don't be over-credulous about this stuff, conspiracies are rarely the organized operations people like to believe and drawing real victims into conspiracy theories (if that is, indeed, what is happening in this film - I absolutely don't know if that's the case and neither do any of the rest of us) is deeply offensive.

Regardless of the film's accuracy and original intent, the channel that it's hosted on is ABSOULUTELY using it to support the Pizzagate conspiracy theory, and is absolutely (if indirectly) exploiting the abuse victims who participated in it, and I am not going to give them even the minimal support of watching this on their channel. Because I've been close to a number of abuse victims for a long time (in retrospect it's a miracle I'm not among them given some of the things that happened at schools I went to, but I was completely clueless at the time and didn't even know what was going on around me until years later), I've seen first hand how devastating it can be (and also how with support many people are able to overcome it) and personally I consider Pizzagaters, who exploit real victims for attention dubious political agendas and Internet ad revenue, among the lowest, most morally and ethically bankrupt people in the public eye right now.

But this might still be a good documentary, apart from all that. IF I can find it somewhere else I'll give it a look.

And again, just for absolute clarity, I'm not saying there isn't a shitload of sexual assault and abuse (and not just of minors) in the entertainment business, because of course there is.

Old_Zircon - 2017-05-26

One of the things that made me mostly get out of live music a couple years ago was that I was sick of seeing people in the regional music scene defend known rapists because they booked a lot of shows.

Show business has a lot of vile characters in it, I just have no patience for this Pizzagate shit.

Here's an alternate, non-Pizzagate upload of the movie for people who care:

Thanks, Zircon. I'll be watching from that link. We've had this discussion in IRC but these days I try to avoid watching anything with under-aged kids in it because 9x out of 10 those kids are likely getting horribly abused.

I'm not a typical conspiracy theory nut but it's hard to take a glance at Nickelodeon and Disney Channel content these days and not think that an entire generation of children are getting "groomed"

TheyUsedDarkForces - 2017-05-26

I'll admit that I've avoided seeking out anything about Pizzagate, my head has been awful enough to be inside of lately without sprinkling in some child abuse conspiracies. But, oh well, once more into the breach, I guess.

I know the basics through Internet osmosis; Child sex/death rings, some shitty pizza place that supposedly has political ties, strange Instagram posts, etc.

There's a connection to "the Pepes" here, right? Does anyone know why that is? Are they using it as fuel for all that "some people just want to watch the world burn" nonsense?

Where's Adam Parfrey when you need him? Is there a Parfrey signal we can shine into the clouds? Like, the silhouette of the Elephant Man, Crispin Glover or one of the actors from "Freaks"?

If you use youtube-dl to download a video, it by default does not increase their view count, as far as I know. It certainly doesn't get noticed by your Google account.

When Reagan dismantled the orphanages and the psych institutions, it made an entire class of disposable people who could be literally disappeared when the system requires it. It's not a bug, it's a feature.

TheyUsedDarkForces - 2017-05-26

Oh, also, I don't know if "the Pepes" is a common way to refer to that set, but I first saw someone use it here and I dig it.

spikestoyiu - 2017-05-26

This one has been making the round recently, almost exclusively due to Pizzagate nutjobs. I don't think anyone has ever disputed the existence of pedophile rings, but saying that their existence means that Hillary Clinton is running one out of a pizza restaurant's (non-existent) basement is like saying that unicorns are real because you saw a horse once.

Amazing how this story keeps coming back, decade after decade..

Check out the pilot they made called Chads World, in the hopper
