That is one adorably dumb dog.

Simillion - 2017-06-03

More like practical. Why bother to lift leg when a chubby shuffle works just fine? Why go over an inconvenient wood bar when there is path to the side? Human dumb.

TeenerTot - 2017-06-03

If he was a seeing-eye dog, would he be smart to jump, or smart to avoid?

Old_Zircon - 2017-06-03

I just assume that like most purebreds his adorable eccentricities are how he copes with being born into a life of borderline retardation and constant pain.

Merry Christmas!

Going around the jump bar is just funny. (and kinda lazy) But if you look at this dog's other videos, you'll see many blank stares and hesitant "I'm not sure about this" looks. This dog is definitely two whiskers short of a full snout.

Adorable, though.

Chow Chows are one of the oldest, if not the oldest extant breeds (i think some type of Afghan hound-type breed might be older), so yeah, they've got a lot of recessive genes coming to the fore. I have a 10 year old Chow/German Shepard mix, and like Chows in general. Very nice dogs if socialized. Their fur and size (mine weighs 110lbs) basically makes them impervious to other dogs, so they just kind of tank around the dog park, waddling from group to group. Managing the undercoat is the biggest issue with them.

POLL: what is a bigger red flag, dog agility enthusiast or showhorse enthusiast?

Bisekrankas - 2017-06-03

This feels like a trick question, was the surgeon a woman?

Anaxagoras - 2017-06-03

I don't know anything about showhorses, but there's nothing wrong with dog agility stuff. It's a great way to build a bond between you & your dog, as well as stimulating the dog, which many breeds need. (Showing off the learned agility is almost completely beside the point.)

One of my neighbors does horse agility training. It's a Thing apparently, like American dressage. She's a good egg and cares about animals. That said, horse people are all kind of nutty. She's out there now, leading a horse around and around in circles. Clockwise so many rotations, then counterclockwise. What does it all mean? Baffling.

Old_Zircon - 2017-06-03

The last person I met who was into dog agility had devoted her entire yard and who knows how many thousands of dollars to it, and it wasn't a small yard.

I'm not an "enthusiast" by any means, but I've got my own homemade obstacles for my dog. He does OK, but he keeps getting stuck in the rusty nail pit.
