I genuinely like this movie, though I must admit the "director's cut" with the original score seems to flow better than the original US release (although the Tangerine Dream soundtrack is great in that).
I often wondered where this was filmed only to later discover that virtually the entire wilderness was built, in its entirety, for real in the famous 007 Stage (the largest soundstage ever built at the time) and that a lot of the birds and such were animals that just came in and started living there.
Back when Ridley Scott was more about visuals and ideas.

Although, upon viewing this and Bladerunner, I kind of wonder if Alien was to Ridley Scott as Star Wars was to George Lucas, and he really didn't have anything in him outside of neat visuals and ideas.
