Yeah I had to cover it twice in '99 and again in '00 and that was right about the time videos started replacing pictures and the bubble of internet journalism was kinda starting. Too many nerds overburdening the Staples Center's internet and all writing about the same goddamn thing, I was actually pretty glad I was more-or-less writing the Dreamcast's obituary because it'd mean I wouldn't have to go back again.

It has been pretty depressing - but that means it's easier to talk about the good stuff, so I'll just do that. Wolfenstein looked sort of ok, and it's upset neo-nazis so that's nice. Mario X-Com looked like it could be fun and it's nice to see Monster Hunter on machines with better graphical capabilities. Spider-Man gameplay looked super-scripted but the possibilities of an actually good Spider-Man made by actually decent developers with an actual budget and not rushing to meet the deadline of a tie-in movie has me hopeful.

That's funny, when I was there I got a lot of time to cover Neversoft's Spiderman game, mainly because everybody was either visiting Neversoft for THPS2 or just going like Lemmings to the MGS2 trailer, even if they weren't there to cover Sony.

..actually having now seen the trailer for a new Ori, I'm officially excited about something again!! I just love how old-school platformers look on next-gen consoles. I'll look forward to playing it in 2024.
