God I miss when movie reviews were done by Pulitzer prize winning journalists instead of the useless amateur clods we get these days.

Old_Zircon - 2017-06-18 It holds up pretty well. The last 5 minutes or so feel rushed, like maybe the studio made them change something about it at the last minute, but other than that it's just about as good as ever.

GQ - 2017-06-20 Blade Runner and Brazil should be given a pass, as those reviews were for the original American theatrical cuts, which was meh for BR, and REALLY bad for Brazil (the "Love Conquers All" ending
He gave Blade Runner: The Final cut 5 stars http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/great-movie-bla de-runner-the-final-cut-1982
(no sign of a review of the Brazil Directors cut though

infinite zest - 2017-06-20 I personally don't really like Jeunet but I appreciate what he does, and it's weird to me that Ebert wouldn't like that when he praises Dark City so heavily, I think declaring it his favorite movie of all time in the DVD's commentary. Not the same movie, but definitely the same theme and in a way kinda feels like when Fritz Lang did a movie with Godard. I've had to do enough critic screenings in my life to know that I don't like film critics, I did like Ebert and he was a really cool guy in person. I'd take his negative reviews when I'd read them with a grain of salt (and probably as a challenge to actually watch the films) but consistently I agreed with him on things that he liked, so I guess his criticism was a good swan song for me to read before everything became about aggregates and film criticism in general stopped giving a fuck.

godot - 2017-06-22 TBH, I kinda like the Ford noir voiceover in the original Blade Runner, and hated the addition of the unicorn dream sequence to spell out that Deckard was a replicant.
