i wonder if todd tried to audition for the role of the first kid

snothouse - 2017-07-09

It's so strange that they shoehorned The Maxx into this.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-07-10

Cy-Gor is a character that was made up for the toy line and then later appeared in the comic and Shadowhawk is a character that has no relation to the Spawn comics at all. She-Spawn sounds suspiciously like the same kind of bullshit as Cy-Gor, but I couldn't tell from a quick search and who wants to spend all night learning about "Spawn" action figures?

The Mothership - 2017-07-09

Oh, Image. Shouldn't we have all seen that all you were was your name?

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2017-07-10

That's the point of the company. Image provides the brand name, marketing, publishing and distribution.

Most of Image's founding partner studios got caught up in the whole "LOOK! BETTER THAN SPIDER-MAN 'CAUSE HE'S A DEMON FROM HELL AND ALSO IT'S MATURE 'CAUSE THEY SAY WORDS LIKE FUCK LOOK AT THIS CHICK'S RACK I DREW SO HUGE" hype cycle. McFarlane didn't suffer the worst from this hype cycle - I'm not sure Rob Liefeld's anything more than a bunch of retraced Kirby drawings badly positioned together - but McFarlane sure refocused from art to overpriced baseballs in a hurry.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-11

I know you mean Lack Kirby but I choose to imagine Rob Liefeld's interpretation of Kirby the Nintendo property instead.

I guess he would look kind of like Dizzy from the Codemasters games except upside down with no feet and a lot more pouches.

This is a weird commercial.

Even if you think the characters suck (they do), the quality of these figures blew the fuck out of everything anybody else was selling or had ever sold. They were also really expensive, which is a common thing nowadays... probably because of these.

Everything about these kind of screams "we're pandering to the adult collector's market" to me, and yet here this commercial is.

Jeriko-1 - 2017-07-10

Oh, absolutely.

There was a rare Maxx figure with an included White Iz that never saw a store shelf since those kinds of things get picked off in stock rooms. Helped me learn at an early age about the bizarre underbelly of toy collecting. And I wanted no part of it.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-11

I don't know, from a purely design perspective I'd take this over Spawn figures any day:

But yeah, Spawn stuff was pretty good quality, maybe on par with Sectaurs or at least close.

Caminante Nocturno - 2017-07-10

Nobody would be happy if they were sucked into a Spawn comic.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-07-10

I saw a boxed Cy-Gor at Value Village last week, along with the complete Austin Powers line that had voice clips in little foot stands.

betamaxed - 2017-07-10

I remember even as a young teen I couldn't get through more than the first 20 issues of spawn because the story was so shit.

I've gone back to read the synopsis on wikipedia and it still doesn't make any sense.

Lurchi - 2017-07-10

no one even noticed Todd McFarlane's recent SPUNK comics
