This scene would take half an hour if done in the new Twin Peaks revival.

But then it would be followed by a flashback of a ash covered Abraham Lincoln lookalike that brutally crushes skulls with his bare hands

Sadly, I know a real-life situation that played out more or less like this.

Neighbor came home from work during the day to get some tools he needed for the job and found his wife in bed with one of her ex-boyfriends.

According to our other neighbors there was a shouting match and sounds of fighting and the husband was dragged out the front door by the boyfriend. The husband, who looked pretty beaten up was thrown to the ground and the boyfriend shouted, "And don't you fucking come back!"

The boyfriend went back in & slammed the door. The husband got to his feet and kicked a good-sized dent in the driver's door of the boyfriend's car. The boyfriend tried to go charging out, but the wife held him back. The husband got in his truck & left.

He came back with the cops. and the whole thing was still being sorted out when the school bus dropped us kids off. All the neighborhood ladies were gathered in one yard watching the action.

The boyfriend ended up getting arrested for assault. He wanted the cops to arrest the husband for damaging his car, but they told him that was a civil matter he could sue over. (They probably could have arrested him, but didn't want to, in light of all that had happened.) The boyfriend claimed the husband hit him first and threatened to kill him & the wife, but he didn't have a mark on him and even though the wife backed his version of the story, the cops still didn't arrest the husband. The boyfriend was cuffed & taken away in the back of a police cruiser.

While the cops were still there, the wife piled a bunch of her belongings in the boyfriend's car & left in it. We later learned she'd gone to the boyfriend's house or rather his mother's house where he was living and the two women went down to bail him out.

The husband kept the cops there a long time talking to them. I think they were giving him advice on how to legally proceed, what he could & couldn't do, etc.

Two weeks later, the cops were back. The husband had called them because the soon-to-be-ex-wife was coming to pick up the rest of her possessions. The husband tried to refuse her access to the house, piling garbage bags full of stuff on the lawn, but the cops ended up escorting her inside and she came out with a few more things.

The husband moved out at the end of the following month. The couple had been renting and the guy didn't feel he needed a whole house for himself and moved into an apartment.

5 stars for how awful this pile of shit movie was. Horrible pseudo-artistic garbage.

Aw, c'mon.

Imo its a quite entertaining film with a lot of cool stuff in it.

My only beef is that Lynch spewed out a lot of very samey films very much in this style, and it gets old fast.

I would have loved more different stuff like eraserhead, straight story, elephant man. Though those 3 are amazing and we are lucky to have them.

Considering the very bizarre history of Mulholland Drive (originally a spin-off of Twin Peaks with Audrey Horne going to Hollywood, then filmed as a pilot for an original TV series, then edited as a feature and released that way), it's a miracle it works at all. As with all of Lynch's work post-1990, I watch it as a series of vignettes and enjoy it or not on a scene-by-scene level. I don't get into conversations about "what it all means," because, again, it's a chopped-up TV pilot.

I didn't even think it was THAT ambiguous, especially compared to Lost Highway.

and even that didn't matter because the individual scenes were entertaining. If you want to see an example of that format being terrible, look no further than Inland Empire.

(or honestly, the new Twin Peaks: The Return. I tried to give it a chance and watched the first 4 episodes. It became obvious that Lynch pulled an Adam Sandler and just used a fan base of past works and conned investors to let him throw together the flimsiest excuse to give him and his old showbiz pals a paycheck)

I honestly enjoyed Mulholland Drive as a Lynch fan but yes, Inland Empire was an abortion and I pretty much gave up on Lynch after seeing that film.

Inland Empire is up there with post-Larua Twin Peaks in that I've never found a single person who didn't hate it.

Gmork - 2017-07-17

This was a Lynch film? Well, I dislike it even more now. I apparently wasn't paying attention during the credits.
