Oh, a movie based on the book The Disaster Artist? I do enjoy a good document-

Oh, it's a comedy-drama starring and directed by Seth Rogen? :quietly shuffles away:

GQ - 2017-07-20

No, starring and directed by James Franco

BHWW - 2017-07-20

That's not much better.

tesla_weapon - 2017-07-20

I don't know what's going on here, but whatever it is, I don't like it, and it's not funny.

Nominal - 2017-07-20

Reminds me of Best Worst Movie not being nearly as fun as just watching Troll 2.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-20

The book was legitimately a great read.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-20

I would definitely read that.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-20

Do they gloss over the fact that he's a glue sniffer?

StanleyPain - 2017-07-20

The book is super entertaining and very funny, but it does tend to romanticize Wiseau a lot. I understand Sestero probably didn't want to stir up shit and just wanted to tell a funny story, but a lot of the book is "OMG THIS GUY IS SUCH A MYSTERY" when anyone who has seriously looked at The Room and Wiseau is like "Yeah, he's laundering European drug money. It's not a mystery."

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-20

Well, if you were reading it for an honest investigation into the truth behind Wiseau's life and money, then for sure it's a disappointment. I liked it as a story about a starry-eyed naive boy's Hollywood dream being completely derailed by a narcissistic and delusional criminal. And it's funny as hell.

Hooker - 2017-07-20

The book absolutely slows to a crawl whenever it's Greg talking about his own life, which is at least half of it. But the Tommy stuff is riveting.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-20

Just for the record the reason I specifically said "glue sniffer" is because when he was on his tour a few years ago a friend of mine at the time was tasked with entertaining/wrangling him for a few days and literally walked in on him sniffing glue.

Which completely explains his acting style.

boner - 2017-07-20

I want to see this, Michael McKean said it's good. Please don't let me down, Michael McKean.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-20

Let's take something strange and wonderful and just suck out everything that made it worthwhile and then keep going.

Worked with Ed Wood, people were milking his notoriety for decades and he wasn't even alive.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-20

I hope the sort of people who make this kind of thing don't find out about Breen.

Donald G. Jackson was self aware enough to innoculate himself at least, this kind of thing feeds on our cultural fetishism of the bullshit "authenticity" myth.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-20

Even if this is good it's a sign of what's to come.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-20

Tim Burton's Ed Wood was a terrible movie.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-20

Authenticity myth?

tl;dr it is how you sell expensive tacos to white people in modern day Brooklyn

StanleyPain - 2017-07-20

This is like the movie equivalent of that one person you know who can't ever shut the fuck up about The Room or Neil Breen or Cool Cat or Samurai Cop or any "internet approved" bad movie for 10 minutes and has to reference it constantly to have any sort of personality or sense of humor. They might as well have a TV or tablet playing the movie 24/7 carried around with them so they can point at it and be like "Ehh? EHHHHH??? GET IT?"

BHWW - 2017-07-20

The only thing worse is being stuck in a 'social setting' with that one person who thinks they're showing how profound and out there they are by arguing that like, actually Ed Wood or some other director of Z-grade films is unironcially one of the greatest directors ever.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-20

All of us on this webzone are exactly what you two are describing, as far as I understand.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-20

SO WHO ELSE IS ALREADY WORKING ON THEIR COSTUME FOR THIS YEAR'S ZOMBIE MARCH?

SolRo - 2017-07-21

Sorry. I don't like terrible movies, ironically or morbidly.

I don't mind watching a clip of them, but the whole thing would be like watching traffic for an hour to see an accident and then sitting through the cleanup.

Nominal - 2017-07-22

I can enjoy the hell out of incompetent movies, but there is a fine line between amazing bad and waste of time bad. There's definitely an "pre-approved" vibe that skews to the latter.

I find Breen to just be boring bad. Everyone's hailing him and the next Wiseau or Nguyen but his movies are, at best, something you'd leave running in the background while you do something else.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-22

In the case of The Room, it's more like watching a notorious intersection where accidents happen every ten minutes.

betamaxed - 2017-07-20

Wish it could have been anyone other than franco and rogan. Sausage Party should have ended them outright.

Nikon - 2017-07-21

I am moderately hopeful for this. I didn't find that trailer to be extremely funny but maybe the rest of the film is better.
