Oh, yes.

Theyre making a sequel to pacific rim, but *not* directed by del Toro. The original was a serious passion project for him, and hes a great director. This could be a terrible corporate committee written pos.

Hooker - 2017-07-26

Yeah. I'm really scared. Pacific Rim is one of my favourite CGI-era action movies. This could be tremendously awful.

infinite zest - 2017-07-27

Thanks to that fucking music I couldn't even get through this one minute trailer!

infinite zest - 2017-07-27

...and to think that my only problem with Pacific Rim was its strange inability to get Oscar winners to act halfway decent.. that like complaining about Obama 2017.

chumbucket - 2017-07-28

Music tells me I'm about 35 years too old for what this is intended toward.

GlaDOS's speech is written really well.

Good thing Del Toro likes Portal, 12 years is a long time between paychecks for combine overwatchers..

TeenerTot - 2017-07-27

All those jaegers look alike. Part of the charm (for me, anyway) of the first one was the different jaeger designs. Like, you could tell by looking at them which was the Russian and which was the Chinese.
Lazy design here. Probably lazy writing and everything else. Pass.

Yeah I always assumed this was Del Toro's nod to Evangelion, which sort of turned the blu mecha vs red mecha archetypes into living creatures with cultural heritages (Gundam's gotten more like that now, but I don't think it necessarily was a focal point pre-EVA) that were really part of the person, like the difference between driving a car and riding a horse. Like, that's a Peter Jackson amount of heart.

Oh yeah Kong Skull Island. Yeah this will suuuuuuuuck

SolRo - 2017-07-27

Gundam always had personalized machines for important characters, and the main timeline always (exception being that short stint in the late 80s/early 90s - 08th MS, 0079, etc) had mechs that walk the line between realistic machines and wish granting entities if you want something hard enough at a critical moment.

It not always a good thing when giant robots become living omnipotent beings able to conveniently alter the plot in a sudden stupid twist.

infinite zest - 2017-07-28

Oh yeah I always forget that Gundam is still very much a thing, and the more realistic ones were the ones I mostly watched, since I was learning about anime in general at the time. I was actually gonna use Patlabor as the example instead, but Oshii's story is more social commentary and less supernatural space/monster opera so I didn't.

Are they taking the piss? I really hope they're taking the piss...
