Being famous for songs you wrote at 16 has to be embarrassing.

Robin Kestrel - 2017-07-23

It worked out for Gordon Gano.

SolRo - 2017-07-21

As a remembrance google will suspend its copyright algorithm for linkin park songs so everyone can celebrate his life in the traditional way; making bad/sad compilation videos set to Crawling

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-21

Some unexpected, subtle similarities between this video and the Tunak Tunak Tun video.

Hooker - 2017-07-21

To be fair, talentless people who have contributed nothing of value to society but otherwise might be nice people (who knows!) commit suicide every day.

tesla_weapon - 2017-07-22

My stars are for Hooker

TheyUsedDarkForces - 2017-07-21

They wouldn't have put him up in that tower if they knew of his struggles

Oscar Wildcat - 2017-07-22

In retrospect, he should have gone with a neo-colonial design.

fedex - 2017-07-21

DUDE DID U SEE THAT WHALE?!!

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-22

I jammed to them when I was a teen. Sad to hear of yet another pop star dying this way, damn.

Ugh - 2017-07-22

is this news trending because it's a suicide or did linkin park actually manage that much social cachet?

SolRo - 2017-07-22

Face of the 2000's emo scene offs himself. Also maybe a lot of newsroom editors made naruto amvs set to linkin park?

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2017-07-22

Bennington threatened to break if he took those steps to the edge. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Jeriko-1 - 2017-07-22

Though I feel terrible for it, there is a sense of catharsis. In the 00's CLEAR Channel stations played this tepid drekk along with Nickleback and Creed 24/7. Because it (Nu-rock) was perfect for playing due to it's completely inoffensive and 'we'll never push any boundaries with our art' nature. It was the Bizarro World version of punk rock.

"ME AM PARTY SOFT!"

tesla_weapon - 2017-07-22

Everything right with this statement and everything wrong with the world. When will punk resurrect itself?

15th - 2017-07-22

It really was a dark time for popular rock. White Stripes were huge and not awful. I can't think of any others offhand.

But, yeah, nu metal was beyond fucking awful. I remember being 16-17 and stuck in so many cheap Pontiacs blaring this shit. Hoobastank. Jesus. Nu metal was so fucking boring and empty it felt malicious.

But, the happy ending was early to mid 2000's seemed like the golden era of indie rock - both great new and old bands gainging national traction. Or maybe it just seemed that way to me. 56k finally came to my little town and I was saved.

Tesla, punk is still around. It just doesn't sound or look like it used to.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-22

Punk can't resurrect itself because you're not 15 anymore.

infinite zest - 2017-07-22

I dunno, in a way I feel like pop music, or the stuff you hear on the radio in 2017, is actually worse, thanks largely in part to "indie" rock's rapid descent into popularity. Now you just have a million fuckwads trying to sound like Bon Iver instead of Rage Against the Machine, and somehow the whiny one's worse.

15th - 2017-07-22

>>Punk can't resurrect itself because you're not 15 anymore.
FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

IZ, yeah I'm not sure the radio is better now, but thank God we don't need it. Every subculture is eventually whored out, but "indie" was especially annoying. Pitchfork has so much blood on its hands, I don't think it would be unreasonable to claim that they've severely damaged music. Unfortunately whenever I hear the slogan "indie," my mind wanders to twee, elitism and insincerity. The unholy trinity of art. Especially twee. Fuck, I despise twee.

Space Odin - 2017-07-22

Punk is fucking shit that ran out of ideas decades ago and has just been coasting on fumes and sales to aging scenesters still trying to get laid to the music that got them ass when they were teenagers.

Except for Turbonegro, and they have been meaningless since Hank quit and became a Scientologist.

tesla_weapon - 2017-07-22

Maybe I need to be more hip to the gigs in my own town. Missed a really good gig last night and had no idea it was on until some guy posted ironically about it after the fact.

Robin Kestrel - 2017-07-23

^5 well said, Jeriko

cognitivedissonance - 2017-07-22

I've never heard a Linkin Park song and I'm not going to start hearing them now.

SolRo - 2017-07-22

I mean, you have.

you may not know you have, or you may be lying, or maybe even in denial, but you have.

SolRo - 2017-07-22

Also I've just found out that IMDB lists AMV Hell videos in its credits section, which is all kinds of awesome.

tesla_weapon - 2017-07-22

I clicked play to remember how fucking shit this music was. I remember when I was 16 going to a local gig and some guys from my school were playing, and it was this hip hop rock fusion shit, and I thought, this music is shit and I hope it dies and never comes back.

The only remotely good rock music that had rap in it was Rage Against The Machine, or maybe some odd beastie boys tracks that were more rock than hip hop.

Also, Linkin Park were one of those whiny emo snowflakes whose fans loved the lyrics, and at the time I loved Maynard James Keenan and I could never figure out why these moronic kids loved such stupid lyrics. And then the 00's happened, and I think I actually shed a tear reading some "lyrics"...

Chancho - 2017-07-22

meh

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2017-07-22

Condolences to his family but this band's music and every other band from that era sucked complete ass.

Nominal - 2017-07-22

I'm honestly stumped trying to think of a WORSE band in the last 20 years. At least one that enjoyed popularity.

memedumpster - 2017-07-22

Every grunge band, without exception.

Crab Mentality - 2017-07-22

The song that launched a million AMV's.

StanleyPain - 2017-07-22

I hold no ill will to the singer and I understand the struggle with suicide, but their music was fucking garbage.

Anaxagoras - 2017-07-22

Same.

Simillion - 2017-07-23

I come from a diverse area and it meant something to the kiddos I was friends with that linkin park had a multiethnic makeup. yes it was all industry manufactured trash but these were the pop musicians of the pre-millenials (late gen-x pre-millenial period) youth, like it or not.

Nikon - 2017-07-24

Dang. I hope that he is in a better place.

Gmork - 2017-08-29

garbage
