HEY MILLENIALS!

THIS ISNT YOUR PARENTS STAR TREK!

IT'S GOT ACTION!

IT'S GOT LENSE FLARES!

IT'S GOT LASERS!

IT'S GOT ACTION!

IT'S GOT ACTION!

WAIT I SAID IT'S GOT ACTION TOO MANY TIMES!! THE ACTION DISTRACTED ME!

DID YOU SEE THAT THING WITH THE STUFF GO BOOOM BLAUAAURRRGH ZOOOOOOP!?!?! THE LENSE FLARE TELLS YOU IT'S GOOD!

SolRo - 2017-07-28

ALSO I SPELLED LENS WRONG BECAUSE THE MOODY-ACTION TRAILER MUSIC WAS TOO GOOD!

Jeriko-1 - 2017-07-29

Wasn't this project personally yanked away from the original director by CBS brass simply because 'Fuck your nerdy, feely shit. Baysplosions sell!'

In other words his direction was too cerebral so they hijacked the project and then Syfy'd the fuck out of it for the all important Mountain Dew chugging demographic. :(

B. Weed - 2017-07-29

I imagine explosions and action don't need you to hire Chinese translators either.

garcet71283 - 2017-07-29

Well, more like appealing to Post-Millennials.

Millennials actually grew up watching Star Trek Next Gen -> Enterprise.

Its the Millennials that abandoned the franchise and killed it.

infinite zest - 2017-07-30

Wait did I read that right? Either you're confusing Brian Fuller with someone else (Singer?) or did they pull an Ant-Man? I mean, I could see Fuller being taken as way too hipstery at times, especially with American Gods, but Hannibal was some of the finest goddamn TV I've ever seen! Why that makes him a good candidate for the Star Trek series is a mystery to me, but I don't really think of action and explosions.. I dunno.. :/

infinite zest - 2017-07-30

Oh shit.. it's like old, old news that he left.. before I even knew there was a new Star Trek in the works. My bad.. so wait yeah this IS a total Ant-Man. Oh well, honestly the only Star trek I like is the original one (and I like that one a lot). I was a little optimistic that this one might be the one to get me back into it but I guess ill just go back to thinking Star trek sucks.

Maggot Brain - 2017-07-30

To me Star Trek will always be a bunch of middle aged men talking about trade regulations at a bar. That's why DS9 is the best Trek.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-31

Explosions are no substitute for good writing, butthey're better than bad writing. Of course, a well-written explosion is the greatest thing ever.

Maggot Brain - 2017-07-28

I thought we were done with sad kitty coves.

exy - 2017-07-28

To be fair, that was more of a bay.

betamaxed - 2017-07-29

Can't be any worse than the last two super shit jj trek movies

SolRo - 2017-07-29

Did you also think trump couldn't be worse than Hillary?

it can always be worse.

betamaxed - 2017-07-29

No I did not think that at all.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-29

The JJ movies have had charismatic actors and enormous production budgets. It's very easy to imagine this being worse.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2017-07-29

None of the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies are shit. It's just hip and trendy to say they are.

The first one was definitely better than the sequels though.

garcet71283 - 2017-07-29

Beyond was good.

Also not JJ Abrams.

Space Odin - 2017-07-30

Say what you will about the other actors but I'm here to defend the fuck out of Michelle Yeoh's honor.

StanleyPain - 2017-07-29

This looks pretty terrible. And I'm still totally confused about what fucking timeline this is supposed to be in. They initially said it would be in the Prime universe, but it sure doesn't look that way at all.
I'm guessing this is going to be a Doctor Who type situation where the new show will not remotely resemble the traditional show in an attempt to market it to a newer audience and while it will probably be successful, it will create this huge, awkward rift between the established quality of the show and just being purely commercial garbage. I am by no means some kind of hardcore trekkie, but I am not seeing this as a show that will tell intellectual stories.

Xenocide - 2017-07-29

It really might be like Classic VS New Doctor Who, in that the franchise was utter crap for years before cancellation and a major change was desperately needed, but now fans cling to those shitty old seasons and defend them simply because they're not the new stuff.

Just saying, every Trek after Deep Space Nine ended was crap, and so were the last five or so seasons of classic Who. But I guarantee that within a month of Discovery's release there will be people out there arguing that Enterprise is an unparalleled masterpiece. This will happen no matter how good or bad Discovery actually turns out to be.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-29

I doubt any MORE people will be rushing to defend the garbage that is Voyager and Enterprise, but both those shows have had enduring and inexplicable fanbases this whole time. Maybe we'll hear more about it, but... that's a strange thing to be worried about.

A friend of mine just got into Enterprise for the first time, and said that he cried at the end. Not "finally the nightmare is over" tears, either. I don't get it, but it's honestly not much worse than Firefly and everyone went crazy for that.

garcet71283 - 2017-07-29

I believe it was said here that if Firefly came out in the 80s it would have lasted at least 2 seasons before being cancelled for being terrible.

Caminante Nocturno - 2017-07-31

If Firefly had come out in the 80s it would have had to find another anime to rip off other than Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-31

.This seems worth a look.

15th - 2017-07-29

I never got into Star Trek and I find this offensive.

Hooker - 2017-07-29

They're doing the whisper-cover thing for Ten Years After now?

Nominal - 2017-07-29

Will a character's favorite food still be pineapple?

BHWW - 2017-07-30

The producers have revealed the main character is also Spock's half-sister. What a very fanfiction-y idea to use.

"Hello, I am Commander M'ry Siu, I'm a previously unmentioned secret relative of one of the main characters from the earlier series with the same abilities, but more."

Maggot Brain - 2017-07-30

Also everything is her fault, thus she's the only one who can fix it!

SolRo - 2017-07-30

STOP TWISTING THE KNIFE!

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-30

How many half-siblings can we cram into Spock's life?

Sybok already proved that one was too many. And I *liked* Sybok as a concept, but not everyone needs to be related to the main crew for us to care.

TeenerTot - 2017-07-31

So which of Spock's parents was a slut?

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-31

We've seen Spock's dad, Sarek, with at least two human wives over the course of his long life, and Sybok was born from his tryst with a Vulcan princess, so I think we have our answer.

TeenerTot - 2017-07-31

Huh. I wouldn't have guessed the vulcan. They being emotionless and only mating every seven years and all.
