Where we're going we won't need eyes!

Cena_mark - 2017-08-04

Trump is doubling down on keeping the support of his brain dead red hat wearing worshipers.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-08-04

Of which there are tens of millions, apparently.

fedex - 2017-08-04

Even if we max that out to 90 million, it's still a pretty crappy minority, almost...thirty percent!!

(Current US Pop is about 325 Mil)

Two Jar Slave - 2017-08-04

Still freaks me out.

I really don't think approval rating matters. All it measures is "are you angry/disappointed with something he's done?" They will vote for him over a Dem when it comes down to it, and progressives will still have their heads up their own ass protest-voting over purity principles.

I still see plenty of people holding on to the long game delusion that Trump's election was a blessing in disguise for progressives. I've even seen SOME PEOPLE earnestly claim that Obama was worse than Trump (something about Obama getting on the phone and personally ordering the DoHS to steal blankets from Native American children). It's that kind of nonsense that's going to doom us next and every election.

2018 prediction: Dems lose 2 senate seats: Sherrod in Ohio and Baldwin in Wisconsin. If some attack doesn't drive everyone to supporting the idiot, the increased legislative support will ensure he can start his own crises in time for 2020.

>>>They will vote for him over a Dem when it comes down to it, and progressives will still have their heads up their own ass protest-voting over purity principles

The way it is said to work in America, in very general terms: 33 per cent Democrat, 33 per cent Republican, 33 per cent independent. It's the independents who are in play, and they have left Trump.

Trump strategy has been playing to the most base part of the base. He follows the applause. It's not a real strategy, but enough of the stars were retrograde in 2016 to give him the swing states. Now, he keeps playing to the base, because it's all he can do, even though it alienates the majority. In fact, that's why the love him, because he "DRIVES LIBERALS CRAZY", and Fox news has them believing that anyone to the left of Sean Hannity is a communist. The center isn't going to trust any gesture toward them, and if he waffles, he's going to find himself on the wrong end of all those angry white hate-boners.

According to the polls right now, more Americans believe that Trump should be impeached than approve of his job. More Americans believe that Trump should be impeached than believed Nixon should be impeached before he resigned. That doesn't mean that he's going to be impeached, but it sure as hell means something.

And he's not done yet. Does anyone think that we're not going to see more scandal, more corruption, more lies big and small? I can't help but think that lying about getting a call from the Boy Scouts about the greatest speech ever is more damaging than lying about meetings with the Russians because it's hard to imagine someone over 12 years old doing it. I might lie to protect my family, but the only reason why I understand the boy scouts thing is because I was 10 once.

A manufactured crisis is the big fear. But there may come a point when no one is going to trust him in a crisis, that it will work against him. And he'll probably go on TV and tell Lester Holt the whole thing was made up anyway.

Just remember that at this stage of George W Bush's career he seemed like a right-of-center mostly harmless caretaker president mostly obsessed with a big tax cut. His biggest foreign policy move was backing out of a treaty with Russia.

A month later, September 11.

When Donnie-Don's approval falls before 30%, or the Senate shames him too hard, or the Mueller probe gets too hot, he's going to do something. Bomb North Korea? Stand aside and let Russia take the Baltics? 40% tarriff on China?

We'll find out.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-08-04

Right, but Bush didn't have the public appearance of a military coup in the West Wing.

Gmork - 2017-08-04

I can't fucking believe how pampered I was with W as president. I was a goddamned whiny little baby for worrying about what he'd do to this country.

Maggot Brain - 2017-08-05

After you hit 100% percent approval you got no place else to go.The amazing thing about Bush W even though his popularity was declining at a constant rate during the election it still managed to stay above the threshold of victory in that election.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-08-04

I don't why everyone in here always wants to insist that we're all fucked, but as we all know, sometimes we really are fucked. Surely, no one who was awake during November, 2016 is going to tempt fate by declaring that we're out of danger, certainly not me. All we can really have is what we have now, but what we have now is an unprecedented failure. An amateur hour meltdown. They've screwed the pooch, they're still screwing that poor bitch, and they're not going to be able to stop.

>>>Just remember that at this stage of George W Bush's career he seemed like a right-of-center mostly harmless caretaker...

You're not wrong, but as a counter-example, consider these two words:

NIXON
LANDSLIDE

Just remembered the tags I used.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2017-08-04

I wonder if Trump has a bet going with Brian Mulroney as to how far he can erode the support of the country who elected him.
