The description tells me all I need to know.

"pot"

lol

The skywalker OG joke made me actually cringe, though.

AKA: "THE BIG BONG THEORY"

There was a time, it must have been before Internet video, and the switch to digital television, when I only had four channels, and I inadvertently watched a certain amount of Two and a Half Men. I discovered that it wasn't as dumb as I had believed, which isn't saying all that much. It was surprisingly dark, the tale of two brothers who had been raised by an emotionally distant single mother, and how it had hopelessly fucked up their relationships with women in ways that mirrored each other. And some of the jokes made me laugh. Yes, it does embarrass me to say that.

I hadn't watched a traditional (laugh tracked) sitcom since the dreadful conclusion of How I Met Your Mother (And Then She Died, Because She Was Really Just a Plot Device)

But I'll admit that "Disjointed" became a guilty pleasure with me. I love Kathy Bates, and the underlying animated sequences and f bombs are at least different. However, at its core, it's the latest example of Chuck Lorre's dubious mission of bringing new life to an ancient format that should have gone the way of Vaudeville by now. If you think you're going to hate this show, I'm not going to try to talk you out of that.

But, I'll confess that I find the old format comforting. And sometimes the jokes make me laugh, slightly more often than they make me wince. Sue me.

JHM my girlfriend's television does that too. It just doesn't pick up ABC or CBS, just NBC NPR and some channel that shows Roseanne/Night Court 24/7. For everything else we've got either netflix hulu or bittorrent, and we still get high and watch Roseanne.

My mother suffers from chronic depression, and when she calls me, I come and hang around, because I love my mother and I'm a good boy. She loves Big Bang Theory. It is amazing to me how much raunchy sex talk is in that show, and I realized she has a crush on the Leonard character. It's kind of bizarre to me. There is nothing funny on that show. I don't understand it as a comic enterprise. Everybody seems infinitely unhappy.

I feel that BBT is primarily watched by parents of children that, they perceive, as reflected in the characters in the show.

Personally, I react to the show like it's blackface.

Crab Mentality - 2017-09-07

Pretty sure that's it. It's the idealized portrayal of how your dorky kids are living now that they never call you.

Nominal - 2017-09-07

I knew teenagers who like it. Aside from them, it's all people over 55 who like it. Have not known a single person between 20-54 who liked it.

It's either dorky kids who think the show validates them, or old people who think they're getting the instead scoop to nerd jokes that to everyone else was played out on Something Awful by 1999.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-09-07

It's dark, Dude.

infinite zest - 2017-09-07

as dark as a goon's mom's basement?

Nominal - 2017-09-07

That said, big bang is SLIGHTLY better than Two & a Half Men.

Robin Kestrel - 2017-09-07

Hey, as long as they have the long pause and the laugh track to let me know where the funny parts are.

"Netflix original" is now officially this decade's "SyFy original"

infinite zest - 2017-09-07

BBT doesn't sound much different from "Spaced" from the description, but I'm not about to watch any episodes of either show to support this theory.

infinite zest - 2017-09-07

whoops not meant as reply.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2017-09-07

That doesn't bode well for Syfy originals, although that's long been a catch-all term for "Canadian imports, reality shows about makeup artists and/or ghost sightings, and clutching onto The Asylum for as hard and as long as we possibly can". If Syfy got rid of those three crutches, I wonder if it would cease to exist.

Nominal - 2017-09-07

Netflix desperately needs an option to filter all those out.

infinite zest - 2017-09-08

I really like The Expanse but Asylum films just need to stop now. They stopped being at all funny intentionally or otherwise a looooooooooong time ago.

chumbucket - 2017-09-07

Added to my Neverwatch list.

Old_Zircon - 2017-09-08

So this is a bunch of BBT style stereotypes of the sort of people that corporate marijuana has been systematically disenfranchising while pillaging their accumulated knowledge and experience since legalization started becoming a reality, right? I couldn't make it more than 15 seconds in.

Mellow out with a phat bowl of Scion Kush.
