Only a full ban (with draconian penalties) on any automatic or semiautomatic weapons will stop the mass shootings.

Any restrictions are easily and cheaply bypassed by the cottage industry shown above

Meerkat - 2017-10-02

I think American gun culture is going to be harder to deal with than just banning automatic or semi-automatic weapons. You can maybe bring the body count down but you can probably do the same thing with forced vaccinations.

SolRo - 2017-10-02

Why not both?

cognitivedissonance - 2017-10-02

So this is what Tarantino was referencing in "Jackie Brown".

StanleyPain - 2017-10-02

The only thing that will start the process of doing anything about guns in this country would be a full-on class-action or civil lawsuit of some sort against the NRA and perhaps a gun manufacturer. If a legal connection can be made linking these organizations directly to the deaths (which they are linked, to be sure) it would make passing legislation or whatever much easier. Problem is, someone would have to do it and foot the bill. With this Nevada shooting, it looks like we will have hundreds of people who could potentially take part in a very large case if someone were to pursue this.

In reference to what I'm talking about, the NRA's clear decades of interfering with sane gun laws without regard to the safety of the public (for example, not wanting guns to be denied to mentally ill people) could probably be established in court, as could the gun industries' lack of doing anything about how easily modifiable their products are to be turned into weapons of mass destruction, well beyond their out of the box capabilities. The AR-15, for example (the gun humper gun of choice) can be turned full auto, illegally, with just some basic tools...it doesn't even need parts or a kit. They know this. They won't fix it because the mod capability is what sells it.
I'm not sayin git would be easy or a home run..but a case like this is the only thing that would really start the ball rolling on any sort of sane gun action...the GOP is bought and paid for by the gun industry, so there's no hope for a governmental remedy. At least, I seriously, seriously doubt it.

SolRo - 2017-10-02

Don’t think for one second that the NRA won’t get congress to pass laws shielding gun makers or itself from any liability if a lawsuit has some chance of winning. And with the Supreme Court now back to its full 5 partisan hacks, it will uphold said law.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-10-02

You are retarded.

That's not what makes the AR platform popular, and it's not even true. On the AR, a proper conversion requires precision welding and some extra parts. Even then, other gun owners will rat you out in a heartbeat and then you are fucked beyond belief. People go away to *federal* prison for LIFE over it.

Also, the product in this video is gimmicky as fuck like every bump-fire mod out there. The government doesn't crack down on it because it's a stupid range toy only an idiot would use to try and kill people with. Look at how you have to fire to use it: from the hip with no way to brace the weapon even a little, and it's moving. In fact, it doesn't work when the weapon isn't moving from recoil a ridiculous amount.

Maybe, MAYBE, you could do some damage with it if you opened up on a crowd at point blank... but you are far, far better off taking accurate shots.

It's not even remotely the same thing. Guys buy this to make themselves giggle at the range, and that's all it's good for.

SolRo - 2017-10-02

Guess the shooter went to jail for life for having 10 full auto rifles?

And gun owners don’t rat anyone out. They brag to each other about how they bypass laws and with what kits. I’ve overheard it plenty of times.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-10-02

They brag about which kits allow them to do what legally, or maybe they brag about shit they haven't actually done because it makes the other stupids think they're cool, but bragging about modifying the sear and trigger mechanism to make an AR full auto is something only someone who has decided their life isn't worth living would do.

SolRo - 2017-10-02

So you want to explain how the shooter had 10 full auto shooting rifles?

You claim modification is too hard

You also claim bump shot mechanisms are too inaccurate.

And if anyone brought it up I’d bet you would have claimed pre-ban guns are too hard and expensive to get

Raggamuffin - 2017-10-02

There's 58 dead and over 500 injured in Las Vegas and the shooter was on the 32 floor. Just some accountant with no military background or anything. Maybe you should keep your "well actually..." gun-shit up your ass where it belongs?

cognitivedissonance - 2017-10-02

No law will ever get through the Supreme Court. Even if the Democrats wheedle a deal by sacrificing healthcare and taxes, it would just be struck down by the courts and they'd have lost healthcare and taxes. There are no solutions except making it unprofitable to be in the gun trade through public stigma, like smoking, and unless you have the media you don't have that. The media isn't going to take guns out of the hands of cool dudes in the movies any time soon.

I don't see any solutions without people lining up to be shot in front of gun stores and thus am defeated by the subject.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-10-03

I didn't say any of that SolRo.

Modification of legal weapons to full auto isn't a thing just anyone can do with minimal effort. The relevant parts are designed SPECIFICALLY to prevent it. Bump-fire is RIDICULOUS to the point of it not even being worth talking about. Pre-ban weapons are prohibitively expensive *with the correct legal provenance* to the degree that it puts them completely out of reach for most people.

None of that means someone couldn't get these things or modify them and use them like that shooter (which I don't understand why you're injecting into this particular discussion) if they really set their mind to it. Design schematics for the important parts of the AR are easily accessible. Someone determined enough could build a complete fully automatic AR from billet and bar stock if they really wanted to.

The narrative that any old dummy could walk in off the street, buy an AR, take a file to a part or buy a kit, and wind up with FA is wrong.

10 illegal FA weapons is enough to wreck your shit if you get caught with them, murderer or not.

garcet71283 - 2017-10-02

'Murica

Rosebeekee - 2017-10-02

I say this half jokingly, but I've always wondered what it would be like if America only allowed women to own/use guns.

garcet71283 - 2017-10-02

Every month there'd be a mass shooting!

Hayooo

Raggamuffin - 2017-10-02

so pretty much the same

jfcaron_ca - 2017-10-03

I think the current rate is actually more than 1 per month.

TheyUsedDarkForces - 2017-10-03

More like a few per week, unfortunately. If you consider that a "major" mass shootings (which is more than four people shot, by most criteria), then it's about one every two months.

Hell, that wasn't even the only mass shooting to happen on Sunday. Someone shot 5 people near the University of Kansas (three dead) in the early morning.

Jimmy Labatt - 2017-10-02

This trigger thing sounds pretty radical. TO THE EXTREME!!

matlock - 2017-10-02

What's with the single-finger hold on the trigger? Looks positively dainty.

Old_Zircon - 2017-10-03

Beta, were you around when we showed Rock N Roll Machine Gun Bimbos?

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-10-03

I'm fairly certain the footage in this that shows the bikini women shooting is from that video.

Even if it's not, those women aren't using the product. Those are actually automatic weapons.

Monkey Napoleon - 2017-10-03

Err you may be talking about something else. I meant the video we screened that's just segments of bimbos shooting in the desert.

Old_Zircon - 2017-10-03

It definitely is, they mention that the guy endorsing this is the producer of that series too.

jfcaron_ca - 2017-10-03

I'm pretty sure this video should have a trigger warning.

bawbag - 2017-10-03

Gun control = giving more power to a carceral state that already overwhelmingly targets people of colour and other marginalised communities.

Never mind that it won't even be considered with trump in office, the GOP house and several hundred million NRA bucks in legislators' pockets.

It's nice to live in a country where there aren't several hundred million small arms in civilian hands but let's not pretend the ATF and cops wouldn't use any gun control legislation to target specific groups. (like they did with the black panthers for one)

Lets also not pretend that the ATF/cops would be enthusiastically disarming their pals in the militias, nazi groups et al who are already targeting marginalised communities.
