It was interesting reading an article (forget where) about Nintendo councils and how it eventually became just another awful corporate call center. Accounts on how it started off as this great friendly fun place to work. Then all the usual(ly worthless) metrics were implemented like clocks keeping track of call time, policies to enforce call time limits, and script following.

Was it the one from Gameological Society?

As an aside, Gizmodo Media Group sites follow Kinja's badly-organized standard layout no matter how ill-suited the acquired properties are for it. It's call-center metric thinking applied to web design.

That's it!

A metrics system like that put into place is usually a sign that you need to start looking for a different job. It means either management is too clueless to know how to gauge performance, or that they're setting up impossible performance standards as an excuse to continuously fire people and keep a fresh rotation of cheap new hires coming in.

When I worked at a call center, they measured performance in number of tickets resolved and nothing else. The "top performer" every month was one of the worst people who would just blaze through calls or tickets with the stock scripted form letter response then marked it resolved and moved on. They were almost never truly resolved, and a good one-third of calls we got were from angry people who had gotten one of her "resolved" responses.

She was the only one who stayed as management eventually fired everyone else who actually solved the customer's issues.

a slick and sincere video, i kept hoping for skip rogers, world video game champion, to make his debut though

TRUE STORY: When I was about 19, I was hired to collate and scan the hundreds of Game Counselor walkthroughs in binders. These things were solid gold treasures now worth unspeakable amounts, but I had to shred and incinerate them when I was done. I was fired for drawing lewd cartoons of menstruating women on the clock.

They started making batshit games to capitalize on this system. Like Castlevania 2 and the the infamous Milon's Secret Castle.

Capitalize on the system of a free call in help line?

Mother Lumper - 2017-10-09

Eventually that call line became fee based, but that was after the heyday of the NES had come and gone. The batshit craziness of old games was just lazy and bad translation of the original Japanese source material.
