I'm pretty sure I saw "bump" before there even was 4chan; I've known about the coke slang for about as long as well, but I always thought "bump" in an otherwise empty forum reply was derived from the saying "after the bump," meaning that further elaboration is requested on whatever the forum topic was about so "bump" it back to the top? I dunno..
I don't think anyone's denying that "bump" in certain contexts can be drug slang, but not in the 4chan "bumping this thread back up to the first page" context.
Bumping threads is relegated to /b/ these days, because depending on the time of day, the board moves quickly to get threads pushed off for inactivity after as little as 10 minutes.
All the interest boards I visit aren't active enough to really need bumping, but I've heard some of the cesspool containment boards like the anime related and video game boards are sometimes that active.
"Bump" is not slang for the substance. "Bump" is the dosage - usually the amount you see someone snort off, say, a long pinky nail. It's less than a line. It's not an alternate name for the drug itself, just the quantity ingested.
I also like her definition of "Revenge porn" is "I posted a picture of myself with my midriff exposed on snapchat and someone put it on an imageboard! MY RIGHTS!
