Far better than all Woody Allen movies combined.

Koko the Clown, a long form bit that's great to use on the radio as audio. If you're on a college or low power FM late night show, play it and have a laugh.

He literally reads a page from Fannie Hill to a secret society of advanced children, hehe.

Don't know much else about Ken Shapiro, except thinking he was so creative in this.

Ugh. This looks really bad. Pretty much every hippy inspired film from back then is fucking unwatchable trash now.

If you haven't seen it, I can see how you might get that impression It seventoies sketch comedy, how good can it be? Remember when SNL was supposed to be so great? If you do, you may be due for a colonoscopy.

But I've seen GROOVE TUBE at least a dozen times over the years, and I think it's a classic. I saw it in the seventies in double feature with FLESH GORDON when I was totally baked. I owned a VHS copy in the eighties, and I downloaded a copy off of youtube maybe just a couple of weeks ago.

There is no single Monty Python sketch that can match Shapiro's "BROWN 25" for dead-on satire. I remember watching it the first time, stoned. I was laughing my ass off, and just not believing that this was actually happening. It's the highlight of the film, and it may be the comic highlight of that whole ridiculous decade. If you've never seen it, watch it now. I'll wait.

I remember visiting Ken Shapiro's IMDB a few yars ago, and it's weird how this guy not only produced, wrote, directed, and did most of the acting, with some help from a young Richard Belzar) ibut he even delivered nd even delivered a decent jazz vocal (that really WAS Ken Shapiro singing "Just You, Just Me" at the end), but he didn't follow it up with much of anything.

So why didn't he do more? Whatever the story, one independent film like "THE GROOVE TUBE", is worth Adam Sandler's whole career.

JHM is entirely correct.
