John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-12-15
What makes this a classic is that it's scored like a real musical, with some good songs, and some nice recurring musical themes. I loved it as a child, and I love it more than ever now that I am so very very mature. I think this is a dupe. I know because I was going to submit it myself a couple of weeks ago, but since cd did it goddamn right I voted for it, and I'll vote for it next year, if I don't die of old age.

I showed up for the Magoo, got a few minutes of it, and was put off that it stopped so that A Christmas Carol could be shown.
And then I realized that this is one hell of an adaptation. Probably the most faithful I've seen, with some small exceptions.
Five stars for being a pretty damn good A Christmas Carol.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-12-15 I’ve always thought a good adaptation would be a version that plays up the ghost story elements and makes it actually scary. Not sure if that’s possible.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-12-15 When I was six, I thought the third ghost scary as FUCK, and now, a hundred and fifty years later, it's just gotten scarier, if you stop to think about it. Imagine being able to eavesdrop on a group of theives, laughing about looting your corpse as they sell your possessions for a few coins, the only ones who cared enough to be with you at the end. That is DEEPLY chilling.
Of course, if after that, they immediately segued into a rollicking musical number, it might lighten the mood a little.

cognitivedissonance - 2017-12-15 There’s another, lesser known Dickens Christmas story, “The Goblins Who Stole A Sexton”, and it’s a nightmare. It also inspired Tolkien’s Goblin King section in “The Hobbit”.
