I presume this performace is from 1986 at the earliest. Like I said in the description, it was recorded for an album released in 1980 but it didn't become popular until 1986. I couldn't fit in the reason, but it was used as the theme for the movie Watashi wo Ski ni Tsuretette (official English title "Take Me Out to the Snowland").

Yumi Matsutoya is both the singer and songwriter of this song.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I mainly know this song because it was covered by Rica Fukami as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus on the second(!) SAILOR MOON Christmas album Sailor Moon Sailor Stars Merry Christmas!.

"My Lover is Santa Claus"

Long ago, on Christmas Day
The posh lady next door said to me
“Tonight, at 8 o’clock, Santa is coming to my house”

I said, “No he’s not, that’s only happens in picture books”
She just winked at me
And said, “When you grow up, you’ll understand”

My lover is Santa Claus
He really is Santa Claus, leaving behind a whirlwind
My lover is Santa Claus
A tall Santa Claus, from a snowy town

How many winters have there been since then?
But even now, I still think of her
Santa took her away to a faraway town that day

Yes, tomorrow I’ll surely understand

My lover is Santa Claus
He really is Santa Claus, carrying presents
My lover is Santa Claus
A cold-looking Santa Claus is coming from a snowy town
My lover is Santa Claus
My lover is Santa Claus
He really is Santa Claus, leaving behind a whirlwind
My lover is Santa Claus
A tall Santa Claus is coming to my house

My lover is Santa Claus
He really is Santa Claus, carrying presents
My lover is Santa Claus
A cold-looking Santa Claus is coming from a snowy town
betamaxed
This is like black tar heroin to my weaboo veins.

Maybe it's just the slightly fuzzy videotape "ambience" but I really like the late 1980s era of Japanese television "live" performances best.

Modern digital live performances just look cold and sterile.
