It's been my experience that if you're willing to slow down to weenie speeds, you can get through. The variables include the road conditions, if you are aware of the road conditions, and if you're willing to drive like a weenie.

Mostly idiots in SUVs and pickups who think they own the road and that ALB & 4 wheel drive means they don't have to slow down in bad conditions.

It's also much more common than in was in the past (for the last 30 years or so) for people to move to different parts of the country, so that means more and more people driving in snow who've never seen snow before. It takes a lot of practice to do it well.

That and SUV idiots, many of whom are preoccupied with their phones.

A little column A and a little column B. I've driven in snow my whole life and usually it's okay, but sometimes it can surprise you. New Years Eve 2013 I watched 2 cars ahead of me skid off a cloverleaf onramp while I was lucky enough to stay on, despite all of us going roughly the same speed.

I think the answer is a "yes, but".

The "yes, but" is, "yes, but they'd need to take old-fashioned human-driven cars off the road first" and not everyone wants to put their lives in the hand of an A.I. machine (even if it's allegedly safer), plus not everyone can afford a new car.

Driverless cars aren't networked to the cars around them; they drive the same way we do: by looking around and adjusting the car's speed & direction based on what they see.
