Somebody remembers this!

dairyqueenlatifah - 2018-01-05

LOL HAY GUYS REMEMBER THAT INTERNET THING FROM 15 YEARS AGO!?!

Binro the Heretic - 2018-01-05

Their writing is getting a bit weak. Hasn't all the real talent left for their own projects?

BHWW - 2018-01-05

Of course they were unamused, it's Robot Chicken...oh, I see what you mean.

Dumb Lamer - 2018-01-05

I couldn't make it more than 20 seconds, but at least I now have the urge to revisit the real Homestar Runner site after over a decade.

Killer Joe - 2018-01-06

Perhaps they're working on a super mario spoof where, get this guys...
THE MUSHROOMS ARE DRUG MUSHROOMS AND EVERYONE IS HIGH!
Get it?!?!
Because... they are taking drugs! Not jumping on pipes and turtles!
HaaaaaHAHAHAHA! Your expectations have been betrayed!!!!

BHWW - 2018-01-06

Here's a spoof of an 80s childrens' show but get this - the characters engage in acts of bloody over the top violence! It's a switcheroo!

MyNameIsUnimportant - 2018-01-06

They actually did the "Mario takes drugs" bit; it's called "Mario goes to Vice City."

It might actually be funny if every single internet comedian since 1999 hadn't done some kind of "Mario takes drugs" bit by then.

Stars here are for evil.

I think Seth Green is accusing the Chapmans of being Mormon separatists? Or something? I don't understand why needed to conflate Cliven Bundy with Homestar Runner.

The only thing I do know is that Williams Street once offered the Chapmans a job, they turned it down, and went to Disney instead. There might be some residual bad blood about that. Their things on Toon Disney are really good and considerably different from Homestar to be worth watching.

yogarfield - 2018-01-06

Crap on crap violence.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2018-01-06

It's too bad figurines don't exist for reference in making custom posable figures and/or straight use in Robot Chicken itself. Nope, Homestar Runner has resisted all efforts to monetize and market the property.

I doubt Seth Green was aware of Homestar Runner before this, either. I'm sure he hasn't seen Joss Whedon in a HR T-shirt or anything.

It's a tricky case. It's not illegal, but typically, engaging in parody is a gentleman's game. Weird Al makes sure the person being parodied is aware and approves of the decision. Mad Magazine has a long standing position as effectively a defanged cultural institution that allows them to do what they do. Artists that use parody for specific purposes are typically using it to make legitimate points about issues they're passionate about.

The Chapman brothers seem pretty content with their lot in life, and that seems more relatable than anything Seth Green has ever done, where he has always seemed actively bitter and envious that he was only ever a character actor and not much else. Plus, Seth Green was in "The Attic Experiments", a stain he will never, ever wash away.

This is pretty borderline in terms of parody, and if challenged I think it wouldn't hold up. Just because HSR has never killed its own characters doesn't mean you can start making your own HSR series so long as it includes wanton violence. I can't put Batman in my movie just because I think it would be funny for Batman to be there.

Similarly, a lot of what Weird Al's songs don't actually qualify under parody law. "Smells Like Nirvana" is clear parody because it is making fun of the band and their unintelligible lyrics, however something like "My Balogna" is just changing the lyrics to be funny, and not a commentary on anything about the song or band.
