When I first started seeing his videos sometime in 2016 (back when he was mostly talking about games still) I wasn't convinced, I agreed with most of his opinions and he seemed like a nice dude but the videos seemed kind of overlong and pedantic and the jokes weren't necessarily that funny. By mid 2017, between him really finding his stride and me getting more used to his style, I was fully on board, though.

That "4 hour body" book he's psyched on reading sounds like it's mostly bullshit, though. It's too bad he went from talking about how much nutrition science bullshit there is online that should be debunked to plugging a book written by a blogger with no actual training or experience in nutrition that's by all reputable accounts packed with easily falsifiable misinformation, self contradiction, outright dangerous advice (weekly "binge" days etc.), and bog standard "don't eat a lot of starch" type stuff that is good advice on its own but complete bullshit when it's tied to claims that it will make you lose large amounts of weight with no exercise in a biologically impossible time frame.

So that bit was disappointing.

patreon is what makes good channels on youtube possible, instead of top 10 garbage or hot girl FAIL shit channels or idiotic web celebrity doing stupid shit that make most of the money from youtube ads.

Yeah, the sad truth is that's how the majority of Patreon-supported channels have to do it these days,between Youtube's demonetization binge and the changes they've made to deliberately create an artificial barrier to entry that pretty much ensures it will be extremely hard for any Youtubers who aren't already well known to get any kind of significant audience in the future (because Google decided a few months ago that it was in their best interest to turn Youtube into a kind of star-system operation that's more like cable television with the production expenses and risks externalized than it is like what Youtube was even a year ago, much less five). At least he's not doing paid promotions (yet).

I hate to say it, but if the cost of quality content is a few seconds or minutes of patron plugs, I'll take it. I'd rather listen to Brentalfloss remind me he has a patron and sells albums at the end of his videos than see him go away, leaving us with nothing but the Logan Paul's of the world.

OZ is right on they money, and on top of that, YouTube's primarily young audience and a skewed algorithm system that's been broken for ages have made it so that the most popular, biggest earners are the most destructive individuals. None of the people that make genuinely helpful tutorials, fun videos like the nerdy treats girl, or interesting and entertaining content that actually takes time (meaning they don't upload more than once a week or so, like Floss) are reaching the top spots. It's all these vain "life bloggers" or "prank artists" that don't know the difference between a fun joke and outright harassment.

I would say it's your laziness on using the scrub button that's the real exhibit here
. I mean you know when the video is over and you can scrub to the end to make sure you didn't miss the Stinger in case there is one..
