God, I used to love playing around in DPIII.

My big ambition was to make a full-length music video. I had the whole thing planned out with storyboards & everything, but I would start working on a scene and figuring out how to get the effect I wanted would make me want to make a little short animation to test it out and I would get distracted.

I would also get hung up putting too much detail in the backgrounds and end up making them into paintings instead.

I think my brain may be powered by a fly in a jar.

I really wanted Deluxe Paint Animator so I could do my own art for The Bard's Tale Construction Set, but it was way too expensive.

I keep waiting for the camera to pull back from the guy in the desert to reveal he has a gun and a gagged hostage

I used play with palette cycling in the DOS version.

I was a PC Paintbrush man, myself.

I'm thinking about getting in to Autodesk Animator Pro, though. I spent an absurd amount of time a couple years ago tracking down all of the commercial IPAS plugins for 3d Studio 4 (if you don't believe me go look it up on Vetusware, I finally uploaded them as-is today because I'll probably never get around to testing them, and I wrote the basic gist of how I managed to get them in the upload description) and it would be nice to get a whole mid 90s Autodesk animation suite going in DOSbox and then not get good at it because I have way too many other things that I want to do even more and keep putting off.

But I do love the 3d Studio r4 renderer. So much.

Anyhow, from the descriptions I've read, it sounds like Animator Pro was by far the easiest to use professional quality animation package of its day, and it would be great for doing some old-style motion graphics for future MNR trailers or whatever. I feel like as good as DPaint is, it would take a fair amount of practice to really get the skills, but I've always found Autodesk stuff pretty accessible. To this day, 3d Studio Max 1.x and 2.x are the only 3d modelling programs I really get along with.
