Christ I am so jaded and cynical now I was waiting for this to turn dark halfway through.

Fred Rogers is the last beacon of hope for humanity and pure innocence at this point. That there could be a man who was just genuinely all around good, well-intentioned, loved children and children's well-being but never secretly touched any of the children. I'm so glad that's real and goddamit, I want it to keep being real. How bad off are we that the simple presentation of a guy being NICE has ignited this ulcer grinding fear in my gut that one day, any day now there's gonna be a Twitter bomb drop. That's why this documentary to me is both terribly needed and a terrible idea. Keep the magic alive, Fred. Be one of the good ones, Fred.

His defense or funding for his show against the Senate always brings a tear to my eye

:)

I pirated a ton of the show for my two year old, and now he won't watch anything else. It's also the only screentime that I think out-performs me as a parent.

This guy and his beautiful perspective on children is one of the better parts of humanity. I always had this crazy fantasy that both he and Carl Sagan could have collaborated to lead a movement to better us as a species.

100% this. Fred Rogers was a Titan.

Like most Canadian children of my era, I grew up with Mr. Dressup, which pre-dated MRN by about one year, actually. I urge my American friends here to please download every episode and watch them with their children. You will not regret it. But of course I always had time for Fred.

The fact that Ernie Coombs (AKA Mr. Dressup) and Fred Rogers not only knew each other but were good friends always made me very happy. This is as good as children's programming will ever be.

I'm not someone who very often believes in "blessings" and the cosmology that that implies, but I am certain that we were blessed to grow up during a time when Fred Rogers had the opportunity to broadcast on TV.

I grew up in Northern Vermont so was able to watch plenty of Canadian TV. Mr. Dressup and Friendly Giant were two huge favorites of mine. I had no clue Dressup and Rogers knew each other well in real life.
