Oscar winning performance.

Gmork - 2018-04-14

Now THIS is progress. Or backpedaling. Not sure which.

Binro the Heretic - 2018-04-14

Fuck off, Alex.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2018-04-14

This reminds me of when Bush announced the Iraq invasion and half of his support base ended up hating him, but it helped him immensely in winning his re-election.

Look forward to a second Trump term.

Gmork - 2018-04-15

And perhaps not living to see the end of it. Or beginning.

Cena_mark - 2018-04-15

It was different in the Bush years. Bush was able to invade Iraq because 9/11 was still fresh and the American people were angry and wanting to kick some asses as long as they were Middle Eastern asses. Today the American people are quite weary war, or it's even just ignored. Oh, we're bombing someone, business as usual. Trump is way less popular than Bush, and also the Baby Boomers will start dying off soon. Trumpie does not stand a chance.

Cena_mark - 2018-04-16

You're judging the war in Iraq by today's standards. In 2004 it was very popular, and gave W the edge. It was a very strange period. We ate freedom fries with our burgers, made coffee in freedom presses, and would visit the Eiffel Tower in the Freedom.

Old_Zircon - 2018-04-16

Yeah, the first 5 or 6 years of the Iraq war were the darkest, most hopeless times I've ever experienced in American politics, far worse than today.

If all of the Democrats fell in line behind trump then 2017 would be comparable to 2003 but so far only a dozen or so have.

Not to undersell how fucked up and dangerous things are now, but at least there's a general awareness of it.

Nobody on the major cable news networks would have kept their jobs for more than a week if they'd been even a tiny fraction as critical of Bush as they are of Trump. People were getting fired for even questioning the strategic wisdom of the war, much less the real politics and morality of it.

I travelled in pretty left leaning circles back then and if you suggested that the USA might be holding innocent people at Guantanamo, for example, people would look at you the way we look at Infowars believers today. And this was in Cambridge, I can't imagine how bad it must have been in a lot of places.

Reagan was still the worst of the bunch, though. We're still living in Reagan's America.

Bob Corker is now drafting an Authorization for the use of Military Force, the same kind that green lit the Iraq invasion.

Good job, "voting for Hillary means war over Syria" dummies.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2018-04-15

Hillary the Hawk, Donald the Dove.

New York Times article.

SolRo - 2018-04-15

The really twisted shit here is that trump only reacts to Syria when fox news or other propaganda he ingests shows him some pictures of hurt children or some other thing.

I have to wonder if he’d be bombing Saudi Arabia or Israel if pictures of kids being killed by those regimes made it on to fox news

discodracula - 2018-04-15

There's a lot of gossip coming out that he's completely lost it because of the raid on his lawyer's office and this could be him lashing out.

exy - 2018-04-15

"please delete this," he said disingenuously. "oh, pray do not let anyone see this impromptu performance of mine."
