I voted this particular video up but it seems like these legitimate issues (and videos) are being co-opted by right wing racists and for-profit school lobbyists to scare white people about black students and how only charter schools will keep their white children safe.

Yeah I was noticing a bit of a smell, especially from the 2nd PTSD teacher video in the hopper, which had pumping fear-music.

Marlon Brawndo - 2018-06-11

The music in that video goes away after the first half minute or so.

I submitted these because I am genuinely horrified by the corruption of the schools across the US that sacrifice the education of their students in order to get paid by the state. The reform that has to happen is to give schools money REGARDLESS of if they have to send kids home, punish them for violence, and it should be a partisan issue. It's true more right wingers are mad about this, and there are a TON of videos I've found where they just complain about multiculturalism and LBGTQ issues being taught in schools, because God forbid you teach kids to be nice to each other. But the fact is, these people's lives are in danger and I never made the connection before that schools could be doing way more to curb the violence of school shootings. As soon as I found this I was like OH MY GOD what if a lot of these schools overlooked the behavior of potential killers/psychopaths because they just wanted to secure state funding? That shit has to change, because schools are so afraid of losing funding they are letting fucking horror shows go down.

If you look at the YouTube description, this is definitely being co-opted by the typical right-wing racists, including an insinuation that we should read a book entitled "Don't Upset The Black Kids".

Since Washington Middle is only about 13% black, I'm confused as to how this is supposed to support this point.

"We appreciate your input."

School was an endless parade of bullshit all day, every day. And that was in Canada.

I cannot even imagine what it's like in the US.

I went to school with a ton of gang members and that shit was not fun. I once was minding my own business and some dude threw a book straight at my fucking HEAD as hard as he could for no reason other than he thought it would be funny. And that's just the start.

Among the things I saw in my illustrious high school were classes where teachers would literally do nothing but fill out paperwork while girls getting ready for their strip club career (no, literally) would talk about how to get laid with guys that had money and do their nails, guys that would literally take out knives and play with them, guys that would carve up desks with said knives, and many conversations about drug busts as police came and searched lockers, which was like a monthly occurrence. I saw so many fights. I had this one teacher who would only yell at guys fighting to take it the fuck outside so he didn't have to deal with it.

Oh and once some dudes thought it would be funny to throw that paint stripping chemical that auto shops use over like a hundred cars in the parking lot.

I'm not about to throw a pity party here for myself or anything, but I went to middle and high school in Florida, in the 90s. So, I mean, if you knew anything about Florida, or the 90s, you can extrapolate from there.

For people not familiar with Florida, just picture this - it's wide open for boats and planes to land but you almost never hear about any major drug busts. You won't believe it until you live there, but that's because all the sheriffs and deputies are in on it.

In 8th grade health class in liberal New England the teacher told us "you might think AIDS is just God's way of punishing homosexuals and IV drug users, I used to think the same thing, but the truth is it can happen to normal people, too!"

Next year that teacher was made principal.

The High School I went to doesn't even exist anymore. The land that once occupied the school is now a bunch of cheep-o condos.

The teachers piteously abused me on psychological levels the other students who simply beat me and set my hair on fire couldn’t accomplish. School was, for me, the worst Hell and I have little to no pity for teachers.

Gmork - 2018-06-11

Those specific teachers, sure, but what's the justification for every single teacher getting the same treatment?

Marlon Brawndo - 2018-06-11

Dude, most teachers I know sacrifice like hell for their students. It doesn't pay nearly enough for most teachers because they are delegated to part time to avoid giving them benefits and the ones that do get benefits often have to deal with being threatened physically, and they often pay for their own supplies.

There is something to be said for corporal punishment.

Maggot Brain - 2018-06-11

but but but school vouchers!!!
