At best (if it is even water) it will be a 1 meter deep layer of super salty brine. If there was/is life on mars there are easier ways of confirming it than trying to drill through all that ice.
I just graduated and nabbed my degree in biology and have done a bit of work study extremophilic single-celled organisms. This discovery has gotten me very excited because even briny gross ancient Martian water could support life if there are the right "nutrients" involved. Those "nutrients" could be anything from methane to good old iron.

Man, last year I had 3 neighbors around me in the same building who were into that stuff. All from watching videos on youtube. I've since moved and know a few people instead who aren't "quite" that far gone in that they are just into ancient archeology and zero-point energy bs.

The internet has given delusional and idiotic people a place to self-reinforce their ideas. Both also preyed on by people that know better but want ad revenue.
