ALF was a bit before my time, but I did catch syndicated repeats of it when I was a kid. Only two things about it left an impression on me:
1) The theme song seemed incredibly generic and boring for a show about an alien puppet
2) In one episode the little kid asks why ALF's home planet exploded and he responded, "Everyone plugged their hair dryers in at the same time." I was like six and thought this was hilarious.
That Carroll O'Connor executive producer joke...you realize his influence was keeping that show above Generic Fred Silverman Crime Drama Starring Old Sitcom Star, right?
Also, Buck Henry making his final appearance to date on SNL. He's been on other Lorne Michaels shows since, but I can't blame him for not wanting to ride the SNL cameo cottage industry.
