In the late 90's I conducted a multiple party mega trade to get myself a VHS rip of the devo laserdisc. It was a big fuck around, and even though I had seen almost all of it on the Rhino released We're all Devo VHS, it felt like I had attained some kind of holy grail (also a nice qualitiy rip of The Men Who Make the Music was included!).

These ads, at least the devo parts, were included on that laser disc.

Laserdisc is still a good format, at least the high quality mode. Uncompressed analog video, uncompressed CD audio. DVD compression artifacts can suck it.

Blu-Ray seems OK except for all of the "remastering" i.e. hacks with no taste jerking off on a Baselight machine.

The biggest mistake they made with Laserdisc was to have the two sides of the disc requiring playback in opposite rotation. That meant that they had to slow the huge, heavy disc to a stop, then get it back up to speed in the other direction. I know that they didn't envision players that could play both sides without flipping over the disc, but that was pretty short-sighted.

Well, that and something like 40% of the discs in circulation being already dead or living on borrowed time due to laser rot.
