Everyone is calling these "deepfakes". I haven't seen any evidence about who made them and how they did it. I presume skilled, 3d modeling/vfx/face mapping would be sufficient. DNN video I've seen has more artifacts.

SolRo - 2019-02-07 Um, yeah, about that whole skilled vfx thing...have you seen Rogue One?
gmol - 2019-02-07 Some reading suggests that faceswapping tech is based in Viola Jones methods. There is an ML part to it, but it doesn't need to be a DNN. Not clear what enabled the jump to this quality. You can see artifacts when get away from front profile.

casualcollapse - 2019-02-07 Something convincingly done can inspire fear and panic.. and terror..I strongly believe this will be used for nefarious purposes in the near future
gmol - 2019-02-07 While entertaining, none of these video would get past a modicum of scrutiny. What is the scenario you are afraid of?
casualcollapse - 2019-02-07 Gmol I'm concerned about state-sponsored deepfakes used to start wars and incite riots.
gmol - 2019-02-07 FWIW modern face swapping does indeed utilize DNNs.
It plausible that with enough smarts and compute, videos could be faked well. But we don't lneed videos to start wars. Remember those weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?

in this stupidly idiotic reality the series anime spinoff of Ghost In the Shell has and optimistic a scene where the good guys hack a satellite and have live footage of The Bad Guys doing a Bad Thing but sadly realize that no one will believe it because videos are so easy to fake.
