Oh wow, I saw this years ago on UHF TV, a station that would play monster movies and experimental films late at night. Their horror show It's Alive was affiliated with a hard-to-find video store, and I guess that's where they got the movies.

Also on the Dog side, look for Angus Lost, where Terrier Angus gets lost and you see his adventures while he's away from home.
