Made to make me feel old, as my wife has no recollection of this.

The similarities between this show and Pumaman are numerous, but not blatant. Pumaman came out about a year before this show started airing. You think there might have been some communication between the makers of Pumaman and Greatest American Hero, or did pop culture go through a "Comedic Reluctant Hero" phase at one point?

I had no idea that song came from a TV show. I assumed it was written for Dentist's waiting rooms.

Billy the Poet - 2007-05-29

I can't believe how much time they used to spend on opening credits.

Between this and the Camel cigarettes guy in the early 80s, I didn't realize that blonde perms were actually uncool until I was 10 or so--talk about miseducation.

dead_cat - 2007-05-30

Should I count myself lucky to have never heard of this before?

I never realized that was the same guy from House. The movie not the shitty doctor show.

Aubrey McFate - 2007-06-02

I was all over this show as a kid, when FX was nothing but old shows.

Also, George Costanza's answering machine.

This was a great show, although the details are lost to early childhood memory, I remember loving the shit out of it, and of course, the opening theme.

This Show's Place In History: the main character's last name was Hinckley and the's show's run started not long before the attempted assassination of president Ronald Reagan. Episodes aired after the shooting were dubbed so he was always referred to as "Mr. H." (the main character was a teacher by day so they used his last name a lot).
