Impeachment is a political process.

Republicans won't impeach because Trump has a stranglehold on the party.

Democrats prefer to run against a weakened Trump in 2020.

So expect the Mueller report to reverberate throughout the next year. I plan on reading it in it's entirety in the near future, then skipping over every story about it forever.

Albatrosses around necks make it hard to steer the ship of state.

Caminante Nocturno - 2019-04-23

Sooner or later that wizard will drop his guard and you'll get to that giant before he can change it into a windmill.

SolRo - 2019-04-23

Like every failed bit comedian nocturno eventually turned to pandering to right-wing idiots to finance his booze and lolicon porn habits.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-04-24

It's not really a giant. It's a windmill. It's always been a.windmill. But we now know that windmills are more.dangerous than giants, because, unlike giants, windmills cause cancer... at least, according to our honest, compassion not-at-all delusional president.

Even Trumpists are going to have a hard time ignoring the abrupt change from victory lap to rage-tweeting tantrum.

Most Trump fans could.care less about criminality, but the revelation that Trump's staff is disregarding his orders, that the white house isn't run like the board room of THE APPRENTICE, that could hurt.

Trump is great at creating distractions from the embarrassing story of the day, but this is something different. This isn't about mastering the news cycle. This isn't the ephemeral news of the day. This is a published document that's always going to be there, day after day, fixed and immutable. It's not a.giant. Or an ogre. Or a sphinx. It's a windmill. It'll be a windmill tomorrow, and next year.

As someone who lived through Watergate, and who very much lives in the present day, let me assure you, this is going to have a life of its own. The Mueller Report is public domain. It's free content for your blog, or your YouTube channel, or your cable channel, or your streaming service. In 1973, someone hired actors to reinact highlights the Nixon Tapes, . It's not like I'm never wrong, but I'm not wrong about this. There will be more than one reinactment of the Mueller Report. It's going to become part of our culture.

I am reading it now. I got a.nice scalable version for.my phone yesterday. The Mueller Report is above all, fair, and that allows me to be.proud to be an American. It's more than Trump deserves, but it's what America needed. I believe there will be a tipping point for Trump's Bullshit. We should have reached it a long time ago, but wherever it is we're going to reach it, because Trump is hellbent on it.

simon666 - 2019-04-24

Impeachment is a constitutional and process of justice. Merely because political maneuvering might motivate individual actors does not make impeachment *just* a political process.

poorwill - 2019-04-23

thank fuck those on the left crowing after barr released his summary seem to have shut the fuck up for the most part, christ that was tiresome.

Nikon - 2019-04-24

It was tiresome. I'm thankful it's over, and I'm sure all Americans are glad to find the POTUS is not working on behalf of Russia.

Caminante Nocturno - 2019-04-24

The worst ones are probably never going to shut up about it.

Not until at least 2024.

poorwill - 2019-04-24

i will bet anyone here the dollar value of their choice that trump will be a one-term president.

Caminante Nocturno - 2019-04-24

Who do you think he'll lose to?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-04-25

Well, assuming that there will still be elections in the bleak dystopian hellscape of next year, I think that there are a whole lot of democratic candidates that will be able to be beat the ranting, sputtering, paranoid, delusional hallucinating Horror movie villain that a year and a half more of this process will turn him into. Therefore, I refuse to get too invested in any one candidate. Right now, my favorite is Pete Buttigieg. I would love to see that debate.

We have two candidates of color running in the Democratic primary, and I intend to take a good look at both of them. We've had five presidential elections in this century, and the three elections where Democrats lost were the ones where the Democratic candidate was white. Now, it would be silly to make too much of this. I'm just saying that for Democrats in the 21st century, the "safe" choice for a presidential candidate may no longer be a white male

Since I'm not at all convinced that anyone commenting here watched the video, I'm going to sum this up. This is not really based on my reading, which has barely begun, but it's based on actual quotes from the report. If it wasn't 5 AM, I might try to document this whole thing with actual text.

1. Mueller accedes to the DOJ standard that a sitting president can not be indicted
if we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state. Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, however, we are unable to reach that judgment.
2. Mueller states that to declare the president guilty of obstruction without an indictment would be unfair, since there would be no trial, and no opportunity to mount a courtroom defense. Therefore, he says, if he thought Trump was guilty of obstruction, he would not say so.

3. However, he says, if he thought Trump was NOT guilty of obstruction so, he WOULD say so:
"if we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state."

4. Unfortunately:
" Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, however, we are unable to reach that judgment."

To which I would add: Would you like him to draw you a picture"?

And he does say, in the most neutral way possible, that if congress wanted to impeach Trump, that would be totally cool. And of course, there's the fuckton of testimony of Trump obstructing justice. This is not partisan at all, and that's commendable, but it's pretty fucked up for Trump.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-04-24

I really believed that I actually proofread this one, but now it looks fucked up. Damn, if I could edit my text, what wonderful text-editing I would do!

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-04-24

I think I accidentally pasted text while posting. Sue me, I'm gonna fix this

kingofthenothing - 2019-04-24

I watched it.

I don't think the report will fire people up enough.

We might get a Michael Moore film about it in ten years, and some SNL skits. I don't think people will take serious action based on the findings.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-04-24

>>>I don't think the report will fire people up enough.

Oh, People are fired up enough. Not the point at all. What's more significant is the Republicans backtracking. "What's wrong with accepting help from Russia"? asks Guliani.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-04-25

I may be wrong, but I am not as wrong as THIS person.
