Trump is the type of person that would deny the world a massive benefit, even if it cost him nothing, if he felt that people slighted him.

Like I could entirely conceive a team of proud scientists delivering both cures to him on election night, only to see his having lost, at which point he destroys the cures and has all the scientists killed.

Standard political play. Biden did the same thing a few weeks ago. I remember when Clinton did it.

Clinton is old trash, and Biden supports walls in Mexico (thanks Poe)

That was in 2006.

Jesus Christ, In 2006, I may have been opposed to gay marriage. 2004 maybe? I was all about civil unions. Democrats were slow to get behind gay marriage because Clinton's push for gays in the military right at the beginning of the first term had been a slow motion train wreck. i didn't want to put everything on the line for a symbol. Turns out I was wrong... not just about the principle, about the politics. Gay marriage not only became practical, it became inevitable.

The fence was bush's policy, and democrats undoubtedly embraced it because they wanted something from Bush. That's what politicians do. I know people hate politicians. That's how Trump got in the White House. Trump is drawn to authoritarianism because he can't do politics.

Presidents can't really promise to cure cancer. What they can do is put money into research, and they often do that. Biden was part of something called "the moon shot" toward the end of Obama's term. Right wingers were mocking Biden, because cancer hadn't been cured. But last time I looked, the money was still in the system, the work was still being done.

But they do with a wink and a nod when rank and file scientists know much better. It's a cruel, dishonest and contemptuous thing to portray the expected costs, risks and returns of research other than what we know them to be.

That cure is “ignore them until they die”.

Aww now I'm sad
