I’d like to get into d&d but I fear the angry fat ‘Comicbook Guy’ player and DMs are way more common than the likable passionate D&Dweebs are.

You literally just start playing with your friends. If you try to join an established D&D group, you're guaranteed to have at least one guy (and it's always a guy) who's thoroughly unpleasant in the group.

Ever try one of those game shops that host games?

Anaxagoras - 2019-11-05

The regulars at those places always seem to be skeezy in one way or another. Or more accurately, the regulars always *were* skeezy back when I visited those shops like 15 years ago. What are they like now? Hell if I know. My information & impressions are badly out of date.

If you're interested, why not give 'em a try? The worst that could happen is that you waste a Saturday afternoon with some schmucks. And the best that could happen is that you could find a really cool bunch of folks, and learn how to play a really fun game.

Oh, and in my experience, there aren't that many "angry" D&D players. When D&D players are lame, they tend to be lame in a drippy, non-threatening way.

So... yeah. Trying one of those local gaming groups is a fairly low risk venture.

Also, if youtube videos are anything to go by, the newest crop of D&D players seem like they're into the game for all the right reasons.
