He has to go now. His planet needs him.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-26

I was going to say that Linsdey Graham is the Smithers to Trump's Mr. Burns, but yours is the superior Simpson's reference, and in late 2019, is there room for two?

Binro the Heretic - 2019-11-24

Cockroaches always flee the light.

Meerkat - 2019-11-24

These guys are all doubling down because they can't afford to lose the "pwning the Libs" voters. They know the democrats will run another candidate that the Russians can convince Americans not to vote for, so they just need to hold onto their base.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-24

They're doubling down because Trump has locked them in. They're incredibly unpopular. They've lost far more races than they've underperformed everywhere. They picked up a couple of Senate seats in 2018 because of a mathematical advantage that will go against them next year.

Trump has essentially cultivated a minority by antagonizing the majority. If the Republicans reach out to rest of us, they'll lose the base, and at this point, most of the rest of us wouldn't vore for them if he let us fuck Ivanka. Doubling down in their only move. Without it, they've be lucky to be polling in the double digits.

Trump is the most consistently unpopular president. You'd think that would count for something. I still think it might.

Nominal - 2019-11-24

People were saying the exact same "He can never win with his constant insulting everyone" strategy in 2016. I have faith that clueless swing state voters and Bernouts will find a way to hand it to him again in 2020. He doesn't even need a majority, just a couple hundred thousand advantage in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Even Republicans losing in 2020 won't mean much if Ruth Bader Ginsburg kicks off before then and Trump rams through her replacement. The only upside would be getting to watch the theatrics as Mitch McConnell tries to justify why Trump gets the pick in his final year while Obama didn't.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-25

Jesus Christ, you kids and your world-weary cynical poses!

>>>People were saying the exact same "He can never win with his constant insulting everyone" strategy in 2016

Readers of English will note that I did not say that Trump can NEVER win, and I sure as fuck didn't say EXACTLY that he cannot win. The EXACT thing that I said, based on the words I used and the exact meaning of those words, was that being the most consistently unpopular president since they started polling may turn out to be a disadvantage. Bold words... but I intend to stand by them!
I will say three things, none of them definitive:

1. Unless you believe in the supernatural, neither a trump re-election victory or a Trump defeat is preordained, at least before a real Democratic front runner has emerged, but actually never.

2. There's no reason to expect that Trump has picked up voters since 2016. He hasn't tried to.

3. TRUMP'S BEST FRIEND IN 2016 WAS A SENSE OF IMPOSSIBILITY. Nobody believed it could happen. This worked to Trump's advantage over and over. Most especially, when James Comey explained why he announced the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails so soon before the election, his explanation was that it would be less unseemly than to announce after Clinton's inevitable victory. "I was living in a world where Hillary Clinton would be president."

Nobody is saying that Trump can NEVER win. HE WON, so that would make no sense. So we might get better turnout this time. I personally know that I would walk over hot coals barefoot all the way to the polls to vote for any Democrat, even Michael Dukakis, whether he is actually alive or not (I have no clue.)

bongoprophet - 2019-11-25

"Bernouts"

oh, those people with a sensible view of the world who are tired of corporate shill democrats?

As a non-american it is incredibly frustrating to see any (barely) sensible left being constantly ridiculed by an apolitical center

Hazelnut - 2019-11-25

I want all centrists, all leftists, and everyone who still loves America to put aside their differences until we rid our country of Trumpist cancer. Don’t be like the UK Labour party, so obsessed with its internal civil war it is ceding the country to the Tories. Let’s be better than that.

Nominal - 2019-11-25

The most important thing to remember is that bawbag, Nikon, and WilliamBurns can all eat shit.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-25

I have to agree with my best friend Nominal on that.

"Bernouts" is not a word I would use, because, IMO, it doesn't adequately address what raging tools the Bernie supporters I encountered in 2016 were. An excellent example of this kind of raging tool, framkly, appears to be bongoprophet, even if it he's not American. It flies in the face of reason, and is typically consdescending that an "apolitical center" seeks to ridicule the left, since ridiculing the left is inherently political.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-25

In America, we have a choice between a party that seeks to advance the interests of the rich, the poor, and sometimes the middle class, with a party that seeks to advance the interests of the rich, and the fears.and prejudices of the poor. It's a clear choice.

Republicans have advanced the superstition that public political power is bad and private political power is good. The truth is that both public political power and private political power bear watching, and public political power is easier to watch. Enron didn't get exposed stealing from old ladies in California until they went broke. If they'd managed to turn a profit stealing from old ladies, maybe they'd still be doing it. If you 've ever seen the Matt Damon movie, THE INORMER, that's a good example of the kind of extraordinary circumstances that it takes to uncover corporate crime.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-25

Corporations are legally required to maximize profit, and that makes it necessary for government to impose regulations that may limit profit. No one else is going to do that. I lile things corproations do, putting aside the hypothetical (sometimes true) argument that government could do some of them better. I love Marvel movies. As a 17 year Linux User (exclusively for about 15) I don't belive that Microsoft should have a lock on the proprietary code that runs all civilization, but Microsoft serves a whole lot of people in an important way, and fully deserves to make.money hand over fist.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-25

I'm not inherently xorporate, because I don't think it's inherently anti-corporate to expect that corporations follow the laws, and that they don't always get to WRITE the laws. I certainly don't want my elected officials to have a relationship with corporate power that is fawning, but I'd also prefer that it not be adversarial.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-25

I'm not inherently anti-corporate.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-25

Should the Democratic Party move to the left? I say we should do whatever is necessary to get EVERYBODY out to the polls. If they need ID, help them get ID. Get all those black folks voting, and then we should see what happens. It could get very easily be a move to the left.

But we need a left wing. After the convention, I expected a Clinton-Sanders alliance, and failing to secure one was a BIG FAIL for my candidate, which was Hillary.

SolRo - 2019-11-24

That was frustration.

Lil Lindsay was all set to have a veteran kiss his ass and tell him how awesome he is and got angry when that wasn’t the case.

Anaxagoras - 2019-11-24

It's amazing how he suddenly had to go when he found out he was about to receive criticism.

TeenerTot - 2019-11-25

I've heard other senators (even democrats) describe Lindsey as a really nice, decent guy. I have yet to see evidence of that.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-25

I've seen evidence of that. See if you can find the clip of him shooting pool on the Daily Show. It's pretty tragic that the empty space known as Lindsey Graham used to be occupied by a funny, likable old Southern gentleman.

SolRo - 2019-11-25

Lindsay is and always has been a racist southern piece of shit who can have fun when not being a bigoted hick. That does not make him a nice guy.

He’s just like “maverick mccain”, will do a song and dance when the cameras are rolling and vote like an evil piece of shit

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-25

Voting correctly, and then arrogantly contradicting anyone who varies from your dull pronouncements, does not make someone a nice guy, SolRo.

SolRo - 2019-11-26

Fuck you, it does.

The votes are what actually effect people’s lives.

Playing pool on a TV show doesn’t do jack shit.

And again you’re retconning a racist piece of trash into a “nice southern guy” up until trump somehow transformed him

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-26

>>>And again you’re retconning a racist piece of trash into a “nice southern guy” up until trump somehow transformed him

OH NO! NOT THAT!

How many years will I have to spend in purgatory for not judging Lindsey Graham harshly enough? I really don't believe that hating anyone is a moral imperative. That's because I'm NOT a raging hard-on. I guess my empathy is somehow painful for you. I hope you can find the strength to carry on. I expect that you will, because you're a raging hard-on.

I suppose Lindsey Graham is still a nice guy. I think it's sad Trump has totally destroyed every shred of his integrity. You probably think he was compromised before, and I'd probably agree with you, but people are more than their worst parts.

My empathy does not change the idea that Lindsey Graham is responsible for his actions. As are you are, and I am, and even Boxxy is.

Hazelnut - 2019-11-26

>The votes are what actually effect people’s lives

affect

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-11-26

I have to admit, affect/effect has always been a puzzler for me.

SolRo - 2019-11-26

You cannot isolate people from their actions.

an SS officer shooting prisoners all day isn't a nice guy if he goes home and is a good father to his kids.

Some people are just monsters and monsters can still have fun at parties and act chummy to people they like or pretend to be decent human beings in public. They're still monsters.

Hazelnut - 2019-11-27

I don’t think you’re arguing about substance, just what the word ‘nice’ means.

In a moral sense of one’s actions, the SS officer and Lindsey Graham are clearly not ‘nice’.

In the casual social sense of affable conversation and an easy manner, the SS officer may well be ‘nice’ (still criminally evil), and Lindsey may have been before he was reduced to a hollowed-out cowardly whore.
