I’m glad to see SolRo agrees with me that structural inequality is a disaster and that extreme conspicuous consumption is as wrong as it is banal.

Binro the Heretic - 2020-02-11

Buying something a Bond villain would cruise around in is not helpful for PR.

casualcollapse - 2020-02-11

I really want that, but I also really want to blow it up.. Hmm.. one seems more achievable..

I will die shiny and chrome in Valhalla

casualcollapse - 2020-02-11

Hey.. at least it's carbon neutral 😒

TeenerTot - 2020-02-11

According to the BBC...

"Sinot said it had "no business relationship" with Bill Gates.

"Aqua is a concept under development and has not been sold to Mr Gates," a spokeswoman said.

She added that it was shown "in Monaco [and] meant to build a better future, and inspire clients and the industry."

The finished concept vessel would be 112 metres long, according to publicity material released by Sinot - although only a two-metre model has been built so far."

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2020-02-11

Two meters! That will fit nicely in his koi pond.

Honestly, considering how many technologies have gone from being luxury items to items for mass, everyday use, I sort of hope that Bill gets his hydrogen boat. But I bet he doesn't.

jangbones - 2020-02-11

25k Americans die every year because they cannot afford health insurance

Hazelnut - 2020-02-11

And that's fucked. Go do something about that. Campaign. Volunteer. Fucked.

Hazelnut - 2020-02-11

See that's what happens when I type too fast -- that's supposed to say "Campaign. Volunteer. Vote." You get the idea. The point is, you can do more than bitch about an imaginary boat that doesn't exist and hasn't been bought.

Binro the Heretic - 2020-02-11

I guess I could volunteer to stand next to sick people while they die.

Because I'm not a doctor and can't afford to pay for their healthcare.

They might appreciate the company.

Of course, I'll have to curl up in a ball & cry for a few days afterward.

Hazelnut - 2020-02-12

Okay, division of labour: I’ll campaign, volunteer, and vote; you bitch all day on poetv.

SolRo - 2020-02-12

How can you find the time to do that when you're on the internet all day breathlessly defending the rich from shitposting?

Hazelnut - 2020-02-12

The secret to finding time is using my phone on the bus. The cost is the occasional typo.

The secret to ‘defending the rich’ is that I don’t!

I am against hate in general, whether it’s Brawndo’s islamophobia or SolRo claiming it’s ‘gullible’ to deplore antisemitism.

SolRo - 2020-02-12

OK homer

Hazelnut - 2020-02-12

Ok Bannon

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2020-02-11

The Sinot video would be even classier if it used the Supertrain theme as background music.

garcet71283 - 2020-02-11

Let Gates have his toys. He's the most low-key billionaire out there these days and isn't part of the problem other than being successful (good for him).

Nominal - 2020-02-11

LEAVE BILL GATES ALONE!

Binro the Heretic - 2020-02-11

He's keeping billions of dollars out of the economy when it could make other people's lives infinitely better.

Hazelnut - 2020-02-12

Binro: way too cool to donate his own time or money, so he looks down his nose at those who do.

SolRo - 2020-02-12

OK homer

Hazelnut - 2020-02-12

Okay Viktor Orban

Nominal - 2020-02-12

You know, for a time it looked like maybe it was just one massively stupid line from you that was worth mocking for at least a week, but you're really doubling down on that whole dollar value to empathy thing, aren't you?

Hell, even the time is fucked. Are you one of those people shouting, "Occupy a job!" at protests? WHY DON'T POORS HAVE PLENTY OF FREE TIME? THEY OBVIOUSLY AREN'T BUSY WORKING HARD!

Measure good deeds solely by material privately donated, never question the system that denies it to the people who need it. You're the personification of what Hélder Câmara was talking about.

You aren't just delusional, you really are a delusional piece of shit.

Hazelnut - 2020-02-12

Nobody’s putting a dollar value to empathy but you, dude. I just think it’s hypocritical to look down on other people’s efforts when you’re not making any yourself.

Nominal - 2020-02-12

And now you're submitting videos trying to prove the Labour party and anti-capitalism sentiments are anti-Semitic!

Fuck, you are a piece of shit. You're just as bad as Bwando and namtar who try to muddy the waters with this kind of bullshit.

Hazelnut - 2020-02-12

I really don’t care about all your name calling, but if you think opposing antisemitism is ‘muddying the waters’ then you’re the piece of shit.

SolRo - 2020-02-12

OK homer

Binro the Heretic - 2020-02-12

Hazelnut, I don't have any money to donate, but I still manage to donate some when I have it.

I'm about to have less of it. I was rear-ended by a distracted driver 2 weeks ago and their insurance company has finally gotten around to deciding they are going to total out my 1998 Saturn for about $1,100 dollars.

I had to leave my smushed but still driveable car at their collision shop to get the ball rolling. I still need a vehicle to get around and they arranged for a rental, but I'll only have it until next Monday. Or I could keep using it for just over $30 a day.

Friday will be my only day off during the time I have the rental, so I'll have to rush around that day to see if I can find a car I can get for $1,100 down. I'll probably have to put some money with that which means putting some bills off until my next paycheck in 2 weeks which also means carefully budgeting and my family going without.

And whether I find a dealer willing to take $1,100 down, I'm still going to be stuck making monthly payments. And because I don't make a lot of money and because I had some credit problems in the past because I've never made a lot of money, the interest on those payments will be higher.

Two weeks ago, I had a crummy but intact & outright-owned vehicle and was just getting by. Now, through no fault of my own, I'm going to be struggling to make yet another monthly payment on top of everything else.

And this comes after the worst year of my life. My mother passed away last May. She and my dad had moved in with me about 10 years ago because of her health problems and I was helping take care of her. Her loss was emotionally devastating to us all. My almost 80-year-old father still has to work 6 days a week because he's still paying her medical bills.

And then in August I finally went to the doctor about severe foot pain. What I thought might have been a twisted ankle turned out to be multiple fractures that I didn't initially feel because I have diabetic neuropathy causing a loss of nerve sensation in both feet. The bones just developed cracks because I couldn't feel how much pressure & strain I was putting on them.

I started undergoing treatment which was costly, even with my insurance from work. I pay some of that down with every paycheck, but still owe a good bit. The good news is I've lost over 60 pounds and gotten my diabetes under control with diet and, after 3 months wearing an air cast & going around on a knee scooter, there was no sign of active fracture. The bad news is the nerve damage is still there, so I could re-injure myself if I'm not careful. I also need to get special orthotic supports, but was hoping to have the existing medical bill paid off before starting a new one.

Also, because I can no longer perform the physically demanding tasks my job required of me, I had to file for "reasonable accommodation" from my employer. I can't be on my feet for more than 10 minutes, lift more than 10 lb or walk more than 200 yards at a time. In my old position, I was on my feet all day, carrying loads of 50 - 100 lb, going up & down stairs, climbing ladders, etc. For now, they've got me doing cashier duty temporarily because it's one of the few jobs where I can sit all day. It's as fun now as it was when I was in my early 20s.

And cashier is only temporary. They're still looking for a position that matches my pay grade and meets my medical requirements. If they can't find one at my pay grade, they can knock me down to a lower pay grade. And being cut to a lower grande and/or part time could mean a loss of some of my benefits of employment. If they can't find a position that meets my medical requirements, they can let me go. I've been there going on 16 years. My health insurance & retirement plan are with them.

If they fire me or if I decline to take a lower-paying position, I'll end up on disability, which isn't something you just get. It can take years to get approved. In the meantime, there is little help for you unless you are completely destitute. I'd probably have to sell the house I worked years to pay for and I'd probably have to drain my 401K before I qualified for any assistance.

But you keep feeling free to look down on me because I can't afford to donate as much as Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos donate to charities.

And you keep feeling free to tell me what an awful person I am for saying people who hoard billions while people around them die from poverty might be a little fucked up in the head, you loathsome smug little turd.

You know the real difference between the alleged "dehumanization" of the mega-rich by people like me and the very real dehumanization of the Jews by the nazis?

The Jews couldn't afford to hire a private army to kill any nazis that came after them.

Fuck off.

Hazelnut - 2020-02-13

Binro, I’m ignoring all the name calling, the ‘smug little turd’, so that I can first say thank you for sharing that very personal account. You’re going through some miserable shit right now, and I’m wishing you the very best at pulling through. I’ve been in similar bad places myself.

You’d be surprised how closely aligned you and I think. If we knew (know?) each other IRL we could well be friends.

Hatred is still wrong! You should know that! If you use your own travails or frustrations at the system to justify indulging in hate, you adopt the ethics of a Trump voter. The people at his rally booing immigrants and chanting ‘lock her up’, they have similar stories to tell. They also think their stories are reason enough to hate, and that anyone who disagrees is a smug elitist looking down on them.

It’s no coincidence that Trump, white supremacists, and SolRo are bashing the same targets and pushing the same conspiracy theories. You might think it’s safe to repeat (as SolRo does) antisemitic lies about George Soros because he’s rich, but guess what? It’s not Soros who suffers, it’s other Jews.

I swear, hand on heart, I don’t look down on you. I’m being sincere. For God’s sake, think about what kind of person you want to be!

Hazelnut - 2020-02-13

I meant to add: I completely and wholeheartedly apologise for my line above, “ Binro: way too cool to donate his own time or money, so he looks down his nose at those who do.” It was untrue and unfair.

(I think it very probably IS true of SolRo and Nominal, but that’s not the point.)

SolRo - 2020-02-13

Hazel you really need to learn when to shut up, especially with your ‘don’t hate your rich oppressors, hating rich people is like being a racist’ diatribe.

Binro if you want to do a gofundme I’ll put in some money

Hazelnut - 2020-02-13

SolRo, you need to apologise for excusing antisemitism. You can start by taking back your Stormfront talking points in http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=155781

Binro the Heretic - 2020-02-13

Solro,

Other people are way worse off than me and need GoFundMe dollars more.

If things get bad, I might turn to it later, but for now I'm okay. I've been worse off financially before and pulled through.

I've found some good deals on used vehicles already and can check them out tomorrow. I'll get through the other stuff.

Hazelnut,

Did you notice how SolRo offered money if I needed it and you wished me good luck?

Because I did.

Hazelnut - 2020-02-13

Binro, I thought hard about offering you money but given you’re calling me a ‘smug little turd’ and accusing me of looking down on you, I didn’t want to sound patronising. If things get worse and you do the GoFundMe, yes I’ll happily contribute. In the meantime I am already following your request and donating to people who need it more; my cause of choice is refugees because I’m an immigrant myself.

Wish we were talking face to face, I think it would go very differently. I’m not trying to score points, I’m trying to reach out and relate to you as a person. Because that’s what we both are. People.

If you still hate me because I’m against hatred in general, well, I’m very sad about that.

Binro the Heretic - 2020-02-13

Hazlenut,

Some of the people who will benefit from whatever charities you donate to or social programs you campaign for are shitty people who hate you.

Are you going to insist they be nice to you before you contribute?

Hazelnut - 2020-02-13

Of course not! Because, as I keep saying, even if they are “shitty” they’re still HUMAN.

We are ALL imperfect, we are all works in progress.

Even — yes — even four year old Maxima Chan Zuckerberg who some like SolRo see as monsters.

You can hate me for that, but you can’t make me hate you back.

BHWW - 2020-02-12

It's a twofer, a ridiculous article about Green plutocrat toys while also being marketing-planted viral fake news that at least some of the journalists or "media whores" probably got a kickback for spreading
