3rd party offline installer for v1.61 and all earlier versions is here:

The official free release makes you log in to battle.net and apparently has backward compatibility problems with network play, so get this version instead. Still seems to work fine under Windows 10 x64.

if you're gonna play an RTS from the late 90's at least play one with physics and deformable 3d terrain and endless moddability

Artosis posts pretty good games.

They badly need to remake Myth.

They don't even need to change anything about it. Update the graphics, give it matchmaking support. Boom!

Gmork - 2020-03-23

Literally what I was referring to in my comment.

I think the world missed its Myth window. Of all people I want that to be true the least.

At least the Gate of Storms lobby was full this weekend due to corona.

Checking GoS out now!

I've also recently been getting into Warhammer Online's revival on a private server, Return of Reckoning. It's like 2008 never left.

Let me know if you have any interest in a plugin for myth that replaces a vast majority of game assets with high def versions. I was one half of a two person team that got ahold of the original 3d models from bungie and re rendered them.

I've been playing theme hospital all weekend.

I beat the Turbo Tunnel for the third time in a week today, but this time I died once.

Nominal - 2020-03-22

Save your sanity, OZ. Turbo Tunnel is NOTHING compared to the soul crushing that is Clinger Wingers.

At least with Turbo Tunnel, between retries you get to play through the actually fun first two levels again.

Clinger Wingers, you have to go through the entire damn game again (holy fuck the shark levels...).

Imagine how fun Battletoads would have been if they just stuck to the formula of the first two levels. It would have been one of the most revered NES games instead of the most reviled.

Old_Zircon - 2020-03-22

Oh I know, I'm a long way from there though, I'm still shitting the bed in the last leg of Arctic Caverns. Turbo Tunnel's not so bad once you've been through it once. It's basically a rhythm game, there's always an audio cue when you need to press something, so as long as you just watch the right side of the screen and time your button presses to the audio it's fine. The only thing that ever gets me anymore is if I don't move far enough up or down by accident, or do something dumb like jump when I shouldn't.

Old_Zircon - 2020-03-22

The ones I'm really not looking forward to are Rat Race and Terra Tubes.

As far as Rare games go, I kind of feel like Cobra Triangle would be harder if it weren't a bit more generous with the continues.

Nominal - 2020-03-25

There's that level warp on the final segment of Turbo Tunnel that skips the Arctic Caverns (unless you're intentionally going warpless).

As a kid, I got Battletoads down to such a science that I hit every warp, and could farm a dozen extra lives in the 2nd level. I still hit the fucking wall in Clinger Wingers and lost every single life and continue. I still have no idea how that level is possible unless you use the pause exploit (pausing before every single turn).

Cobra Triangle, FUCK that game. It's definitely harder than Battletoads and Ninja Gaiden. At least I could nearly make it to the last level or boss in those games. Cobra Triangle I couldn't even make it past the 2/3rds mark, and that was with the 1-UP loop trick where you could max out your boat on level 1.

Nothing comes close to Legacy of the Wizard for most impossible NES game though. That thing was top on the dreaded call list for Nintendo game counselors.
